Out and about in Shropshire

Challenge 1: To travel the length of the Shropshire Way

Our new challenge will take us all over Shropshire on a walking route of 190miles.

You can take a look at the route here:

http://www.shropshiresgreatoutdoors.co.uk/walking/the-shropshire-way-main-route/

We already have 7 miles covered as we walked a little bit further than we needed to whilst doing the River Severn route, so we have 183 miles left to travel.

Reflection Time and Prayer of the Day

Good Morning Brown Clee!  I hope you had a good weekend, and how lovely to open the curtain to sunshine again!  It looks like it is going to be a beautiful day!

This Friday is a special bank holiday to commemorate the 75th anniversary of VE Day, when on May 8th in 1945, the world celebrated peace in Europe.

Here is a presentation that teaches you about VE Day.

VE Day Presentation

VE Day was a day of celebrations and reminds us that there is always hope!

We know we are unable to celebrate VE day together at a fete, but we thought it would be nice if we could still make it a special day, by making some red, white and blue bunting at home, and wearing red, white and blue clothes!?  If you could send us a picture on Friday by 2pm of you in your red, white and blue, we will put together a photo montage of the school to share!

Today is a special day for Jake in Class 3 – so can we join in and sing to wish him a Happy Birthday!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JAKE

Prayer of the Day

Dear God,
Thank you for all those who fought to bring peace during the Second World War.
Thank you that peace eventually came.
Please be with all those who are living in areas of the world that are affected by wars today.
Please help us to do our bit in creating peace wherever we are.
Amen.

Reading

Here’s today’s chapter from Pax:

Daily Video

Here’s today’s animation:

Before you start your questions, I would like to point out that butterfly caterpillars don’t “climb” into their chrysalis, and that after the caterpillar sheds its final skin, the layer beneath it actually hardens over time to form a chrysalis. Moth caterpillars form a cocoon around themselves by spinning silk around themselves. Anyway, scientific accuracy aside, here are your questions:

1.) What scared the caterpillar at the start of the clip?
2.) What do the other two insects do to help the caterpillar into its chrysalis?
3.) Why do the two insects have to stay on the rock?
4.) How do you think the “caterpillar” feels when it emerges as a butterfly?
5.) How does the clip end?

Writing

As quite a few of you have said you’d like some opportunities to write stories, today’s task is to write a short story about a butterfly’s journey from a caterpillar to a moth.

You can use today’s video for inspiration. You can write your story in first person (as if you were the butterfly or something watching the butterfly) or in third person.

This is likely to take slightly longer than most writing tasks, so it can count as today’s and tomorrow’s task.

Science

Following on with the butterfly theme, today’s science task is to draw the life cycle of a butterfly. It would be great if you could include pictures and a description of what happens at each stage.

Here’s a video showing the metamorphosis of a butterfly to help you out (it is a time-lapse video, meaning it has been sped up and it does not happen as quick as in this video):

Daily Activities Monday 4th May.

Good morning Class 1. I hope you have all had a lovely weekend!

This week our English learning will be based around the book ‘What the Ladybird Heard at the Seaside.’ This book is also written by Julia Donaldson who wrote ‘Sharing a Shell.’

Josh’s mum kindly sent me a link of the book being introduced by Julia Donaldson and read by Lydia Monks (the illustrator.) It is such a lovely book, I thought it would be nice to do some work based on it this week.

Our Maths work will be based on making doubles, grouping, sharing and finding a half. Year 1’s will be following the White Rose home learning. Reception will be doing a mixture of set activities and White Rose home learning.

This weeks our topic work is based on Geography. We will be learning about the human and physical features of the seaside.

Please find the links for today’s daily learning:

Challenge 1: To travel the length of the River Severn

Well done Class 3, we’ve covered the whole length of the River Severn!

I am so impressed with all the effort that you are putting in to keep completing our challenges!

I shall post information about our new challenge later today.

Class 1 update…..

Here is what Alfie and George have been up to …. Well done boys, it is lovely to hear from you!

Covid 19 Situation

We have now been closed for 6 weeks, and as a school we have been following the government guidelines since the beginning of this situation, and will continue to do so.

There is much speculation in the media about what will happen with schools in the future. We have no information regarding this whatsoever, and we will continue to follow the government’s guidance when it is updated.

We thought it might be useful to gauge what concerns or thoughts you have as parents, regarding schools re-opening (bearing in mind we do not know what format or timescale this may be).  If you wish to share these with us, as it may help us to reassure you when the guidance changes, then please email admin@brownclee.shropshire.sch.uk.

Whatever happens in the future days and weeks, we can reassure you that we will always have pupil well-being and safety as a priority.

Calling all Tree Spirits!

I have seen some fantastic tree spirits    that have been made by Class 3 pupils in the last few days!

If you have a photograph of your tree spirit that you haven’t sent in yet, don’t forget to send it to me by this evening.

I would love to gather them all together and send them to show the author of our class reader, The Golden Acorn.

Benji is 5!

Benji is 5 today, His mum has sent me a picture of him with his Minion birthday cake. It looks great. I hope you have a lovely day!

Reflection Time and Prayer of the Day

Good Morning Brown Clee!

Well here we are at the end of another week of remote learning.  It has been 6 weeks now since we have been together, including the Easter holidays, and we are really missing everyone.  The photos are wonderful and really help everyone to stay in touch and keep us together ‘virtually’, so again, thank you so much for sending them in!

When we return to school after the 6 week summer holiday, we always comment on how much everyone has changed; you are all taller (sometimes a lot taller!) and also more grown up and mature.  So we can’t help wonder how much we will have changed when we do finally get back together.  Being together is so important – and it is something that Captain (or rather Colonel!) Tom has sung about recently with Michael Ball.

We learnt about the amazing Captain Tom previously, and his amazing fundraising feat – he has now surpassed £30 MILLION!!  Well yesterday he celebrated his 100th birthday, and as well as that, his song has reached number one in the charts – it’s called “You’ll Never Walk Alone” – and that is true for everyone – as we are always together, as a team, even if we can’t see each other.  In fact Colonel Tom says himself “The sun will shine again, and we will never walk alone!” There are 2 videos to watch and listen to –

Captain Tom being given the news he is Number 1 in the Charts

YOU’LL NEVER WALK ALONE by Captain Tom and Michael Ball

We have another birthday to celebrate today – as Benji is a fantastic 5 years old today!  Congratuations Benji – we hope you have a great day!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BENJI

Prayer of the Day

Dear God,
We thank you for our friends and for the happy times that we share with them.
Help us to be a good friend to them.
During this time when we can’t play with our friends,
Please help us to find creative ways to keep in touch.
Thank you that you are our friend and will be with us always.
Thank you that you are always with us and never leave us on our own.
Help us to keep our eyes wide open to notice when other people need a friend to care for them.
Amen.
