Half Day on Thursdays

A quick reminder that our half day is Thursday, where Reception finish at 12.30, Year 1 at 12.45 and Year 6 at 13.00, every THURSDAY.  Children will have their packed lunch at school before being collected.

Reflection Time and Prayer of the Day

Good Morning Brown Clee!

I hope you enjoyed thinking about the illustration from “The Boy, The Mole, The Fox and The Horse” yesterday, and thinking about what makes us afraid.  Our Christian Value this half term is courage, and I would like us to think a bit more about what courage is today.

Courage can be lots of things. It can be facing our fears, such as being brave and trying not to be scared of the dark or of heights. Courage can be having the inner strength to be the best that we can be.  Courage can also be doing what we know is the right thing, even when it is very difficult.  Courage has many forms – but by being brave and showing courage it shows that we have inner strength.

Have a watch of this video of an athlete, Derek Redmond in the 1992 Barcelona Olympics competing in the 400m semi-finals…

In this race he tore his ham string and was in agony, but he was determined to finish, and despite the pain he persevered and managed to finish the face – supported by his father (the man who runs out from the crowds).  This exceptional demonstration of courage and determination, of true Olympic spirit is often used as an example to show that ‘being the best you can be’ is more important than winning, and it is more important to try your best.

Prayer of the Day

Dear God,
Sometimes it’s hard to be brave. Please
help me to have courage to face my fears
and to admit my mistakes.
Help me to find the courage to pursue my
dreams and know that, even if I am afraid,
having courage will help me to achieve my
dreams.
Amen. .

Monday’s Activities

Well done Class 3 for all the work that you sent in today. You are really thinking carefully about your presentation for the work we will be sending to India, I know that the teacher and children will love it! Enjoy looking at these photos of some of activities that you completed today.

Thank You!

We would just like to say thank you to parents and children for helping us to make today successful! The start and end of day procedures worked well, and now that we have trialled them for a day, should run smoothly in the future.

The children have hopefully had an enjoyable day despite the social distancing measures, and we have all been so impressed with their positive response to the new systems. It has been so lovely to see the smiley faces of everyone around school!

A couple of learning points…..it is really helpful for children to have their belongings in one simple big bag to allow them ease of carrying and cleaning hands. Also, thank you to parents for collecting children and leaving the playground promptly at the end of the day (Reception and Year 1).

We did notice that children got a bit hungry mid morning, so please feel free to send a hard fruit eg apple, pear, in within your child’s packed lunch, that they can have as a morning snack.

Reflection Time and Prayer of the Day

Good Morning Brown Clee! I hope everyone had a wonderful half term break, and how lucky were we to be able to enjoy such fantastic weather!

Well today is the first day of our last half term this academic year, and it is a very strange one!  Some of you will be reading this at home and some of you will be reading this in school in a small group in a classroom. Hopefully you will all enjoy the reflection and appreciate the fact that, although we are apart (even in school, our small groups are not allowed to mix!) we all have a shared opportunity to reflect together, and this will bring us close together in God’s Spirit.

This half term our Christian Value is “Courage” so today I thought I would share another beautiful illustration from Charlie Macksey’s book “The Boy, The Mole, The Fox and The Horse”.  Enjoy the detailed but simple illustration, read the words and then pause and ponder – have a think about what it makes you think about?

What are your thoughts? ……………  Mine are that we often don’t know what the future holds, and sometimes not knowing what might happen can be quite scary. But we should remember to try not to be afraid, as more often than not, the unknown can bring great joy and happiness, and sometimes the joy is greater because it is a surprise.  So as the sun rises on each new day, I am going to welcome the unknown and not worry about what I cannot change, and I shall look forward to the surprises that bring me happiness and smiles!

Prayer of the Day

Dear God,
Thank you that you love us and care about us.
Thank you that although we can’t predict the future,
We can know that you will always be with us, whatever we do and wherever we go.
Please help us to trust you.
Please help us to find other people whom we can trust and talk to about our fears.
Amen.

Class 4 – Weekly Activities – w/c 01.06

Welcome back. As mentioned before half term, with Reception, Year 1 and Year 6 returning to school, we have needed to change the home activity setup slightly. The main difference is that maths, English and a few foundation subjects will be given weekly. You can choose how best to do these throughout the week. This week’s maths is not going to be a full week as we’d already done the first 2 lessons last week; however, it would be good to recap what you did before half term.

I have also gathered together some free websites (some do require you to sign up, but all are free) on a range of different subjects. You can use these as extra to the weekly task as you wish.

With myself teaching in school throughout the day, it does mean unfortunately I will not be able to respond to emails and questions. However, Mrs Heath has kindly offered to reply to anything you may send in. If you do have any questions, you can continue to send your emails to class4@brownclee.shropshire.sch.uk.

Weekly Activities – 1.6.20

Good morning to you all! I hope you have had a lovely, relaxing half-term break with your families and enjoyed the glorious weather we have been lucky to have.

As you know, it’s going to be a little different from this point forward as I will be back in school teaching and so I won’t be able to post ‘Daily Activities’, as before.

I will be posting ‘Weekly Activities’ for you to dip into. Please don’t feel that you have to complete everything, as before, just do what fits in with your family circumstances.

Please continue sending your lovely work and activities to me. Miss Greenan is going to post photographs on the class page and I will still read and respond to your emails. It will just take me a little longer to reply, as I will be in class during the day.

I hope you all have a great week!

Monday 1st June – Daily Plan – (p1of4)

Hi Class 3!

Welcome back to school for the final half term of the year. I hope that you’ve all had a fantastic half term break. It was great to be able to enjoy such beautiful weather!

My first job is to pass on a message to you from Mrs Roy, the teacher in our link school in Kolkata. She was thrilled with your work that I sent about fruits and vegetables and will be sharing it with her class very soon. The schools in India are also closed and so they are home-schooling like we are. I had a lovely Skype session with her over the half term and she has asked me to say hello to you all.

This week one of our topic activities each day will go towards a package that will be sent over to India next weekend. Over the week we will be exploring traditional dishes across the United Kingdom. Keep in mind the dishes you find out about on the first four days, as you will have the chance to prepare and eat one on Friday if you would like to.

The theme for our other topic activities this week will be The Olympic Games, as the inspiration for the Modern Olympics came from our home county of Shropshire.

I look forward to receiving your e-mails!

Mrs Heath

Next week – Returning to school and home activities

As you are aware, following Miss Relph’s update on Thursday, the Government have confirmed that schools are reopening for Reception, Year 1 and Year 6 on Monday.

Just a specific for those from Class 4 who are returning:
Miss Relph mentioned that school uniform is not a requirement (due to the need for new clothes to be worn each day). It would great if those returning in Class 4 could wear anything suitable for P.E. each day (particularly appropriate footwear) as we won’t necessarily have a set day for P.E. and will be likely to be doing something outside every day.

As mentioned before half term, due to this reopening, the home activities will change slightly. The main difference will be that activities will be set weekly – as opposed to daily as previous. Next week’s home activities will be available on the class news from 08:30 on Monday.

Further School Opening – 1st June – Reception, Year 1 and Year 6

Good evening,

It has now been confirmed that schools will be opening further on Monday 1st June for Reception, Year 1 and Year 6 pupils.   Thank you so much to everyone for letting us know if your child would be returning on 1st June if we opened, as that has really helped us with our planning.

You will have seen that the school looks very different, and those children that are returning will find it rather strange – as will we!  But we will ensure that they are happy and as safe as we possibly can.

You have also received all the information on procedures, and again we would like to draw your attention to the Start and End of Day Procedures, as this is where the risk of mixing is greatest.

Children only need to bring their packed lunch (if they are not having a school packed lunch) , waterbottle (the water fountain is not in use) and coat (we will be getting children outside as much as possible, and coats make a great picnic blanket!).  They can also bring one toy for use at playtimes.  Please keep it as simple for children as possible, as they will have to carry their own belongings from the reception gate and into class 4 cloakroom on their own.

Remember that school uniform is not a requirement, but a new set of clothes each day is.  If it is PE that day then children may come to school in their PE kit and stay in it all day – keeping things simple is definitely the key!

Please note that for safety, parents are not to enter the school (sorry!), so if you do need to see any member of staff, or have any questions, please ring or email to make an appointment.

Please be patient and bear with us on Monday, please be punctual so that children can arrive in their year groups and follow the one-way system using the ‘yellow circles’ to keep everyone at 2m spacings! We will have staff out on the playground and I will be there to meet and greet at the front of the school to help and support the children.  We will all soon get used to it I am sure, but it will seem very new and different to start off with.

Keyworkers requiring Child Care – I will be emailing to provide arrival and collection procedures tomorrow…and we really appreciate as much notice as possible of any Child Care needs for these critical keyworkers – who we really appreciate everything that they are doing!

In the meantime, enjoy the fabulous weather and if you have any questions please just ask!

Class 1’s Sharing Post

Good afternoon Class 1. I hope you have all had a good day! Thank you to everyone for sending in what you have been up to. I always look forward to receiving emails from you all.

I must say a big thank you everyone for all your hard work during this time. You have been amazing! Thank you to parents for all their support, for helping the children complete their daily activities and for sending all the lovely photos and updates.

Have a lovely half-term break and stay safe!

Mrs Fox

Problems of the day:

As you may have seen in yesterday’s letter, with the school potentially reopening for Reception, Year 1 and Year 6 on June 1st, the work set via the website is likely to be slightly different to how it is currently. We are yet to decide the best way to keep providing activities for those not in school alongside teaching those who are, but will keep everyone informed.

If anyone has any questions/queries, please feel free to email (class4@brownclee.shropshire.sch.uk).

I hope you all have a good half term break, and I’m looking forward to seeing the Year 6s when they return.
