Friday’s Activities

Class 3 have been sending in some more super photographs of the activities that they have been getting up to at home.

I hope that you all have a super half term break next week Class 3 and look forward to being in touch again soon.

Reflection Time and Prayer of the Day

Good Morning Brown Clee!

Today we ‘break-up’ for May half term, and we will be halting the remote learning activities for a week so that we can all get outside and enjoy the wonderful weather that is forecast! We will also be thinking about June 1st, when we may be opening for some children.

It has been 10 weeks since we closed to most children, and we are so proud of our school community for all working together and putting children and their families safety first. The wonderful communication and involvement with the work that the teachers have been setting each day and the sharing of photographs have been a real treat, as we are all missing seeing our school team!

I am quite sure that everyone has been experiencing a mixed range of emotions, and also now, with the potential broader opening of school for some children, there could be feelings of worry and anxiety.  We always talk about feelings in school and how all feelings are valid and ok! It is ok to be happy and it is ok to be sad….and likewise it is ok to be scared and it is ok to be confident. What matters is how we manage those feelings.  Here is a short video…see if you can guess the emotions!

Today I am feeling excited as I will get to see the fabulous Brown Clee school staff team, as we  getting together, in a socially distanced manner, to ensure that we are all prepared and ready to possibly welcome more children into school on June 1st.  However I am also feeling sad, as I know that the warm, welcoming, ‘cosy’ school environment has temporarily changed in order to comply with the necessary guidance to ensure that it is as safe as possible for everybody.  But I appreciate that the safety of our community is the top most priority. Have a wonderful half term week, stay safe, and also please keep in touch with the website and emails, as we will be sharing further information to keep you informed with all that we are doing to make school a happy and safe place for children.

So here is a little song for you to enjoy whenever you just fancy a sing!

https://youtu.be/ut5_ZaEAS3s

Prayer of the Day

Dear God,
Thank you for all the feelings we have and that each one has its place.
It’s right to be scared if we’re in danger.
It’s great to be happy when we can.
Please help us to control our bad feelings and not be overwhelmed by them.
Amen.

1.) What ere the animals and trees made from?
2.) What caused the forest fire?
3.) What caused an “oil spill” in the water?
4.) Who was this animation made for?
5.) Do you think there is a message behind this story? If you do, what do you think it is?

Handwriting

Here’s another handwriting activity. Copy up the following in your neatest handwriting:

The voices continued as Carl carefully pressed down on the handle. At first, he could not see anything – due to the bright light coming from inside the room. Carl’s ears swivelled as his eyes adjusted. Eventually, he could make out the back of Mr Snuffle’s chair and two drooping white ear sticking out above it. Carl could hear the voices much clearer now. Despite the length of the room, he could even make out some of what was being said.

“They arrived last night. We need to stop whatever they’re planning!” a hoarse, crackling voice echoed from behind chair. Carl stepped forward to see if he could make out who – or what – Mr Snuffles was talking to. As he stepped forward, his tail swept along behind him, catching the priceless vase resting on the podium behind him. Carl’s years of training meant he had incredible reflexes. He turned quickly his orange paws reaching out to grab the falling vase. The problem was however – in his desperate attempt to stop the vase falling – Carl’s hind paws had made just enough noise to alert Mr. Snuffles. The bright light was instantly extinguished and the voices ceased immediately. The large black turned, and across the vast room, Carl could see the confusion, shock – and the slightest hint of panic – across his boss’s face…

Daily Activities – 22.5.20

Good morning Class 2!

As you will know it is the start of half-term so you will have a break from work next week.

After half-term, some of us could be going back to school. Albeit, in a very different way and therefore remote learning for the other children will look a bit different too. As soon as I know how this will look I will let you all know.

Thank you very much for all the fantastic work and activities you have done at home during the first half of the Summer term.

Also, a big thank you to all the parents who have worked so hard helping you to do your work and for sending it to me, along with photographs. I have over 200 PowerPoint slides with all the different photographs on, that you have sent me!

Maybe we can think of the day that you can all be sat on the carpet, side by side, looking them and remembering the very strange months when we couldn’t see one another. What a happy day that will be!

For now though, I wish you a lovely half-term with your families.

Stay well, stay happy & play the days away!

Class 1’s Sharing Post

Good afternoon Class 1! Here is today’s sharing post.

New School Organisation and Structure for possible opening on 1st June

Good afternoon and we hope everyone is enjoying the sunny weather!

We are working hard behind the scenes to prepare for a possible opening of the school for Reception, Year 1 and Year 6 children on the 1st June.  This involves a lot of changes and organisation, and we really appreciate your understanding, and openness with letting us know if you are planning to send your children back to school if we are told to open.  This has really helped us with our planning, so thank you!

This letter provides some information on the classroom organisation and structure, as well as staffing planning and days/timings if we open:

Letter to parents Class Organisation Staffing Structure

We will also be posting further information to be more detailed about the Start and End of Day procedures to minimise contact between groups and maximise safety.

If you have any questions please do email me: head@brownclee.shropshire.sch.uk

These are unprecedented times, and I’d just like to reassure you that we are doing all we possibly can to prioritise everyone’s safety and well-being.

Reflection Time and Prayer of the Day

Good Morning Brown Clee!

We are approaching our May half-term break and at the end of the month, on Sunday 31st May the Church celebrates the festival of Pentecost that celebrates the descent of the Holy Spirit on the disciples of Jesus after his ascension.  This day is also called Whit Sunday – and is often referred to as the birthday of the Christian Church.

The Bible describes the Holy Spirit in different ways. It speaks about the Spirit being strong like the wind, but gentle like a dove and as bright, warming and powerful as fire.

What would it have felt like to have been with the disciples in that room on that special day of Pentecost? It would have been amazing!

Prayer of the Day

Dear God,
We thank you for sending the Holy Spirit at Pentecost.
Thank you that you keep your promises and can turn sadness to joy.
Amen.

Writing

Here’s another colouring activity. This time you need colour each word based on which word class it could fit in. Some words could fit into more than one class (so you can choose which one) – e.g. Quarrel can be a verb (He is going to quarrel with me) or it can be used as a noun (He and I just had a quarrel).

PDF version word classes

Here’s a reminder of each word class:

Nouns are words which are used to identify “things”. Things can be people, places, objects, animals, ideas, feelings.
e.g. The dog from London had hurt its tail when it tried to squeeze through the gap in the fence.

Verbs are words which are used to describe an action, state or occurrence. We usually think of verbs as being actions.
e.g. Several of the chickens had escaped because the boy unfortunately left the gate open.

Be careful though as some words which are sometimes verbs can be used as a noun: e.g. He is going for a run – here, run is being used as noun.
e.g. He is going to run to school – here, (is going to) run is being used as a verb.

Adjectives are words which are used to add extra detail about a noun.
e.g. The blue and white cat jumped over the massive pond.

Adverbs are words which add extra detail about verbs, adjectives or other adverbs.
e.g. The really annoying chameleon walked incredibly slowly towards the fly.

Pronouns are words which replace a noun (you don’t necessarily know what noun the pronoun is replacing unless you have more information).
e.g. He loved playing volleyball whilst she hated it.

Determiners are words which determine which or what noun is being referred to.
e.g. The old man had three dogs, several grey mice, an elephant and this flamingo.

Prepositions are words which describe where something is in relation to something else.
e.g. The cat was hidden inside the bin. She arrived after dinner.

Conjunctions are words which connect ideas or words together.
e.g. Whilst I am swimming, my sister goes to football and tennis.

Daily Video

1.) How would you describe the dog?
2.) How would you describe the shepherd?
3.) What does the shepherd do with the sheep’s wool?
4.) Where does the dog wake up every morning?
5.) When the shepherd is no longer able to sheer the sheep, what happens?
6.) What does the dog try first?
7.) What does the dog work out?
8.) What happens after the dog is able to turn the wool into clouds?

History

During the Tudor period, families/houses would have a “coat of arms”. This was often displayed on banners and shields when they went into battle. Here’s are slide from a PowerPoint explaining some of this:

Tudor Knights and Coats of Arms

Your task today is to design and draw your own coat of arms. Before you start, here’s some information on Heraldry (the design of coats of arms) including the meanings of some colours, symbols and animals used.

The Language of Heraldry

Here’s some templates you could use as a basis for your coat of arms. You don’t have o use these: if you wish, you could draw it all own your own.

Reflection Time and Prayer of the Day

Good Morning Brown Clee!

What a glorious day! I do hope everyone is making the most of the fantastic weather…so I shall keep this short today!  I do like Charlie Macksey’s book “The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Moose” so I thought we could share another of Charlie’s artwork. Enjoy the words and beautiful illustration and have a moment to see what you think about.

For me this makes me think that KINDNESS acts like an umbrella above and beyond all other values….and so being kind is essentially one of, if not the, most important values to display.

So time for a song….we have sung it before, but it is so bright and cheerful that I thought it would be nice to sing it again!

https://youtu.be/iGUABWgeA1Q

Prayer of the Day

Dear God,
Please help us to look each day for opportunities to be kind to others.
Help us never to be so busy looking after ourselves that we forget about other people.
Amen.
