Wrap around care for Spring term 2 2026

Please could ALL parents / carers advise me of Wrap around care club requirements for Spring Term 2 (including people who already book regularly).

Due to the popularity of wrap around care, spaces are filling very quickly and it is important we know the daily requirements to ensure we have adequate cover.

If you book regularly and wish to cancel a booking, you may do so by letting me know on careclub@brownclee.shropshire.sch.uk or by ringing 01746 712652 (you will not be charged if you cancel your booking before 7am on the day in question).

Where wrap around care is required at short notice, please call the school office to book in.

Please make sure all requests are made between 8.15 – 3.15 Monday to Friday as requests received outside of these times may not be actioned.

Please also note Weekly clubs are now available to book on ParentPay.

Thank you for cooperation

Kind regards Kerry

Scorpions Forest School

Today, Scorpions created Viking Runes. They worked in groups to create a runic coded message to locate an item that they hid somewhere on the school grounds. Other children than had to decode the runes and find the item. Once again we had a great morning. There was lots of excellent teamwork and collaboration. The runes looked really authentic.

Fire Safety presentation

This morning the Year 3s and Year 4s had a visitor from the Shropshire Fire & Rescue Service. They found out about the role of the fire service and what happens when you call 999. They also talked about what to do if they spot a fire, how to check a smoke alarm, the important of thinking about escape routes and “Stop, drop and roll”. They have been given the tasks of checking smoke alarms at home and talking to parents about escape plans. Thank you Shropshire Fire & Rescue Service!

FOBCS – Bridgnorth Walk

Please see below from FOBCS:
FOBCS– Bridgnorth Walk- Brown Clee School Team Entry
This year’s Bridgnorth Walk takes place on Monday 4th May. We were wondering if there would be enough interest for us to enter a school team, to take part in the Junior Walk (ages 9-15) & Family Walk, both of which depart from and return to the family fun day at Cleobury North Village Hall. Early bird entry fees apply until 28th Feb- Junior Walk £10 each + £1 booking fee, Family Walk £6 each + £1 booking fee. All entry fees go to the Bridgnorth Lions Club who in turn donate to various local and national charities and good causes.
The Junior and Family Walk routes are much shorter than the full route with the route of the family walk being fully pushchair and wheelchair accessible.
The walk is both fun and safe, and the theme for 2026 is ‘Community Matters’, as everyone comes together to celebrate the very best of our local community.
Please let us know if you would like to take part (whether it’s a yes or no!) : Bridgnorth Walk Brown Clee School Team Entry – Fill out form

Mathematical Problem Solving

Scorpions enjoyed solving a mathematical problem on Friday. There was lots of excellent discussion and mathematical talk about how to go about solving the problem, made even more exciting by representing the problem using marshmallows! It was fantastic to see the children so engaged and focussed on finding a solution.

Viking Day lunch

As Scorpions and Bees are currently studying the Vikings, Laura and Carla will be serving a special Viking inspired menu on Tuesday 3rd February (please see poster below).

As we are unable to amend the menu in ParentPay, if your child would like the beef stew please select the Fish Cake option, the veggie option is already showing as mac n cheese.

FOBCS meeting – Monday 26th January

Friends of Brown Clee School (FOBCS) will be holding a meeting in the school hall on Monday 26th January at 5.30pm to discuss fundraising ideas.  Everyone is welcome and there will be tea, coffee and biscuits.

Scorpions Forest School

The weather was not very kind to us today but Scorpions still had a great morning at forest school creating ‘Dragon Eyes’ from natural materials. The children began in groups collecting items that they could use in their designs. They then thought about how they could use the things they collected for the different parts and colours of Dragon Eyes.  The end results were amazing! Well done Scorpions!

KS2 Forest School Sessions!

We are very excited to share, that beginning this Wednesday (21st January), KS2 children will be taking part in regular Forest School sessions. Each session will last for the whole morning with each class taking turns to attend. This will be organised on a three week rota – Week 1: Scorpions, Week 2: Dragonflies, Week 3: Bees.

Children will need to come into school in old clothes suitable for Forest School. They will also need to bring additional clothing listed below:

Waterproof leggings

Waterproof coat

Hat, gloves, scarf

Spare socks

Boots or wellies

They will need to bring their uniform with them which they can get changed into for the afternoon.

Dates of Forest School sessions are:

Scorpions: 21st January, 11th February, 11th March

Dragonflies: 28th January, 25th February, 18th March

Bees: 4th February, 4th March, 25th March

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email your child’s class teacher.

Dogs on School Grounds

We have discovered dog mess several times over the past few days – which really is not fair on our children or the staff that have to pick this up.

Please could we remind everyone that accessing the school grounds out of school hours is trespassing.

Chicken Pox

We would like to let you know that we have had several cases of children having Chicken Pox reported to us. If your child does develop Chicken Pox under NHS guidance they should be kept off school until all the spots have dried up/crusted over as long as they are well enough.

Forest School – Pond

During the summer, a pond was installed in the Forest School area.

We have a further plans on developing our Forest School – including extending our existing on-site area and utilising the nearby woodland (owned by the Community Land Trust) for our KS2 Forest School sessions – and may be looking at putting together some working parties in the near future. If anyone is interested in helping with this, please get in touch.

Weather update – Celebration Assembly Cancelled – 8th January 2026

As shared previously, a decision on whether we will be open tomorrow will be made early tomorrow (or tonight if already significantly severe).

Considering the uncertainty, Celebration Assembly will definitely be cancelled.

Weather watch – Thursday Evening / Friday Morning

With ongoing potential amber weather warnings (for snow) for Thursday evening (8pm) until Friday morning (9am), we will be reviewing the forecast over the day and into the evening tomorrow (Thursday).

The school has no plans for closure tomorrow – unless there is a significant change between now and tomorrow morning. A decision on whether we can be open on Friday will be made on Friday morning (or Thursday evening – should conditions be particularly bad already at that point).

If we are forced to close, then this will be shared via the school website, school Facebook page and via Shropshire Council closure page.

Care Club and school dinners

If you require Care Club this week and haven’t already booked, please could you e-mail Mrs Godfrey on careclub@brownclee.shropshire.sch.uk with your requirements as soon as possible.

Also, please don’t forget to book lunches for your children if they are required.

Dodgeball Club – Now bookable

Please note that there was a technical error on ParentPay with dodgeball club, meaning that it was not showing up on anyone’s account to book.
This has been fixed now – and anyone wanting to book onto dodgeball club can do so.

Christmas Dinner / Jumper Day

A last-minute reminder, following from dates shared earlier in the term, that tomorrow is Christmas Dinner day. If you wish to order a Christmas dinner, please order the “meat curry” for a turkey dinner or “veg curry” for the vegetarian option. These can be ordered up until 09:00 tomorrow.

As part of this day, children can come into school in non-uniform (ideally, with a Christmas jumper).

Christmas Tree Auction

A big thank you to Burwarton Estate for their donation of the large (~15ft) Christmas tree – which some of you may have seen in the school hall during the recent nativity performance.

An extra thank you this year to Anita and Duncan Pearce – who donated the smaller (~8ft) Christmas tree (situated just outside the main entrance).

Same as last year, we are looking to auction both trees off to raise some further funds for FOBCS (our PTA).

If anyone would like to make bid for either Christmas tree, please do so via the following link: FOBCS – Christmas Tree Auction ’25 – Fill in form
