KS2 Gymnastics Competition

15 pupils from KS2 took part in a gymnastics competition this week. Brown Clee had two teams competing in the Y3/4 event, and 5 pupils competing in the individual open event. There was a lot of fantastic confidence and determination on show from everyone throughout, but a special well done to Rosie M (who finished in 3rd place) and Lola (who finished in 2nd) in the individual event.

Wednesday 7th September

Hi Dragonflies,

It was lovely to see you all in class today!

Please could you wear your P.E. kit on Wednesday and bring in one of your favourite books.

Welcome back!

Hello Dragonflies,

I hope that you’re enjoying your summer break. If you’d like to find out what we’ll be doing when we return to school in September, head to our class information page.

I look forward to seeing you all soon!

KS2 Athletics

This week, 24 pupils from across KS2 took part in an athletics competition at Oakengates. They took part in mixture of track and fields events across the day – including sprints, hurdles, long-distances races, relays, rounders ball throw, javelin, long jump and high jump. The children showed fantastic team-spirit and determination throughout the whole day.

We even had some pupils who made it to the podiums in their events:

Summer Holiday Activities

Our sports partnership has recently shared this information on activities available over the summer holidays.

Here is also some additional information from Shropshire Council on a wider range of activities available across Shropshire: HAF SUMMER 2022 – What’s On – including some information on some free places on holiday activities (Who Can Access the Free HAF Programme).

Tag Rugby – School Games

Following on from our success in the East Shropshire Tag Rugby competition, our winning team took part in the tag rugby county finals in this year’s Summer Games. Check out the team in action below:

Tag Rugby Success

Today, 24 pupils from KS2 took part in a tag rugby competition at Swancote (Bridgnorth Rugby Club) – making up three teams competing.

All the children showed fantastic focus, determination and teamwork throughout the whole competition.

Our C team finished in joint third position in the plate (second competition) – with our B team winning this competition. Our A team were undefeated throughout and eventually went on to become the overall main competition winners!

Brown Clee were also one of two teams voted by the sports leaders officiating the event as “consistently demonstrating the sporting value of Respect” throughout the competition – something which, alongside their impressive finishing positions, all the teams should be additionally proud of achieving

.

As the overall winners of the East Shropshire Tag Rugby Competition, the A team will have the opportunity to represent East Shropshire in the Summer Games (date to be confirmed).

Science in Dragonflies

This afternoon we have been observing and studying rocks as part of our science work. We have looked at chalk, limestone and basalt. We have recorded our findings.

Running Challenge – Spring Term

Here’s an update on each class’s running challenges for this term.

Fireflies

Fireflies are attempting to run the distance from Ditton Priors to Shrewsbury (the birthplace of Charles Darwin) – 22.3 miles – as many times as they can.

Grasshoppers

Grasshoppers are attempting to run the distance of the Sydney Harbour Bridge (in Australia) – 1,149 metres – as many times as they can.

Dragonflies

Dragonflies are attempting to run the length of the Shropshire border – 497km.

Scorpions

Scorpions are attempting to run the distance from Nordland (in Norway) to Lindisfarne (the first known Viking raid of a monastery in England) and back – ~2,000 miles.

Girls’ Football – BES

Last Thursday, 18 girls from Years 3-6 took part in a recent girls’ football at Bridgnorth Endowed School.

All the girls showed a fantastic level of commitment, determination and teamwork throughout. The teams’ performances were particularly impressive given the number of Year 3s and 4s we had taking part in a Year 5/6 competition- and our unfortunately diminished team sizes (with 2 teams having to play with only 6 players against 7).

ESSP Swimming Gala – William Brookes

Ten Pupils from Scorpions and Fireflies took part in the East Shropshire Sports Partnership swimming gala at William Brookes School this Thursday.

All the swimmers showed fantastic determination, team-spiritedness and confidence in helping Team Brown Clee to eventually finish in an incredible second place overall – an especially impressive feat given the small size of our school!

Class Challenge

How far can you walk or run whilst you are at home? You could run laps of the garden or a route around the house. Send us the distance you cover and we will add it to the class total. I wonder whether we will finish our second lap around the Shropshire border during half term…

I look forward to being back in class with you all again soon.

Best wishes,

Mrs Heath

Art in Dragonflies

We have been looking at the work of landscape artist William Heaton Cooper.  We have learned about using one point perspective in our drawing and have used colour to add perspective to our paintings. We have learned that we can use lighter to darker shades to show perspective.

We laid our paintings out and had a critique session. We discussed the use of colour and shared our observations with each other.

School Prayer

We will finish today’s assembly with an opportunity for a quiet moment of reflection with our school prayer.

Dear God,

Thank you for our wonderful school.
Help us to be good learners.
Help us to look after each other.
Help us to be respectful and kind, and to make everyone welcome.
May our school be a happy, safe place – where learning is fun,
where we all work together to be the best we can be.

Amen
