Good morning!

What a lovely surprise this morning. I found several e-mails waiting for me from Class 3! Well done to all of you who are working so hard. It’s great to receive your mails and see how you’re all doing.

White Rose Maths update

Thank you all for your patience with the White Rose Maths site yesterday. I know that White Rose are on the case and hope that you have a better time accessing resources today!

A Message from the Head of White Rose Maths

I wanted to sincerely apologise if you have experienced any difficulties getting on to our website today.

Due to the huge level of traffic to our site this morning, our web servers were incredibly busy, and we understand that some people had problems accessing the resources.

At one point we had over 200,000 visitors trying to access the pages at once, which as you can imagine caused issues. Lots of you were able to get on the system, but I know others could not access our content.

High demand was anticipated but unfortunately despite the measures taken, the system found this level of traffic challenging! We will be working around the clock with our website team and server hosts to ensure the web site can cope with this massive demand for our home learning resources going forward.

In order to help level out the demand please try to download the worksheet and answers the day before, at a separate time from the videos.

We will be following the lessons through the week, so you know which worksheets to download in advance.

Super work yesterday

Good morning Class 3,

What a lot of great work yesterday – beautifully presented and accurate! Keep up the good work and keep sending the photos in!

White Rose Maths

Hi again Class 3,

I have just spoken to the fantastic staff at the White Rose Maths site. They currently have over 100,000 people trying to access the site at the same time and although the site hasn’t completely crashed they are aware that there are problems. They have reassured me that their IT team are currently working on solving the problem and have thanked us for our patience.

They have suggested trying to access the site again a little later in the day at the moment as the videos are more likely to play when the demand is lower.

It’s been great to see that Archie has been busy working this morning – I have just had a great mail with pictures of him hard at work. Well done Archie!

Web links on class planning

Hi Class 3,

I have just been informed that the links on the Class 3 planning sheet aren’t fully functioning. It appears that there are two issues that I am currently trying to sort out.

Firstly, because the document is saved as a PDF the links aren’t working. These are the links that were on the sheet for today:

https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-3/

https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-4/

www.primaryhomeworkhelp.co.uk/Romans.html

Secondly, when you get to the White Rose pages it seems that they are no longer working correctly. I think that this may be because there are so many people trying to access them at the same time. I will email White Rose and get back to you all again later.

Please carry on looking at the work that can be done, it really doesn’t matter which order the tasks are done in.

Look forward to hearing from you,

Mrs Heath

Physical Challenge

We are only 460 miles short of reaching our goal of completing our class challenge of walking/running “Home from Rome” – let’s get to the finish line!

You have worked SO hard over the term to get this far. If you go for a walk, or a run, or do laps of your garden or field etc whilst you are off please try to work out the distance that you covered, so that I can add it to our total. Yesterday Lexi and I walked 4 miles, so there are now 456 miles left to go. Send photos if you can!

Class 3 Skype

Lexi and I skyped you all in Class 3 for the last time this afternoon. It will be so odd not being able to see you all every day, but I can’t wait to hear about the things that you’re busy getting up to. If you can, send photos of activities or work that you do to our class email address and I will get back to you. Look forward to hearing from you all.

Mrs Heath

School Games: Year 3 and 4 football.

Well done to all who took part in the football yesterday. They performed fantastically,  worked well as a team and supported other team mates throughout the tournament, because of this they came fourth.

Inter-house Netball

Well done to class 3 who took part in their inter-house competition playing netball, in the freezing cold! The final score was  Falcon 0-1 Hawks and Falcons 1-0 Hawks.

World Book Day – Thursday 5th March

World Book Day

This year for World Book Day we shall be focusing on one book as a whole school.

We have chosen:

The Huge Bag of Worries By Virginia Ironside

We will share the story together as a school and throughout the day each class will take part in activities inspired by the story.

We are also inviting the children to bring in a fruit or vegetable fictional character that they have made.

It could be a parsnip Harry Potter, an apple Mrs Twit or a banana Podkin One Ear!

We look forward to seeing your creations!

Indoor Athletics at William Brookes

12 children from Class 3 and Class 4 took part in an indoor athletics competition at William Brookes this afternoon.

Overall, the boys’ team finished 11th and the girls finished 4th.

Home from Rome

This term Class 3 are challenging themselves to run as far as they can back home from Rome. At 1,320 miles it is the furthest that we have tried to run in a term, and of course we only have a limited time for this each week. In order to complete the distance we would need to run approximately 110 miles each week. This week the class made a stunning start to the challenge accomplishing 144 miles – AMAZING effort class 3!

Spring Term Forest School

The dates for this term’s Forest School sessions are as below. Please note that all children will need their Forest School kits next Monday (13th January) and also on 23rd March.

Happy New Year!

Class 3 have made a super start to the new term. We have started to explore our topic of the Romans and the children have been working hard to make sure they are independently organised and ready for work.
