Easter Activities

Hello Class 2! I hope you are all having a good week.

Here are some Easter activities to keep you busy.

Have a lovely Easter weekend and enjoy your Easter eggs!

Butterfly Update

I know a lot of you were enjoying the updates about the butterflies. I had promised several of you that I would keep you up to date with their progress….

I can tell you that all  five of our caterpillars successfully hatched into Painted Lady Butterflies!

I have taken some photos for you all to see how beautiful they are.

I have since released them from the habitat. Below  is a link to a short clip which shows one of them flying away…

Wishing you all a Happy Easter!

Good Morning Brown Clee!

Another sunny day!  We had some interesting thoughts on the THUNK from yesterday: “What’s the greatest illusion? That life should be perfect”.  Here are the thoughts…

  • There is no such thing as perfect (in my opinion). We all have different ideas about what we want from life. We might want the sun to shine everyday, but would that be perfect? What would happen to the earth if the sun shone everyday and we had no rain? We might want to never have any disagreements, but do we want all our opinions to be the same? Do we all want to look the same, wear the same clothes, think the same things? Would that be perfect? If life was perfect, would it be exciting?
  • What is perfect? As surely we can always improve what we are doing, whether it is a picture, a story, a maths problem or playing a piece of music. If we thought we were perfect at something would we then give up getting any better?
  • I think it depends on what the ‘perfect’ thing is – as everyone will have their own idea of perfect, so perfect can be different for different people.

Fantastic thinking – and thanks for sharing!

Here is the THUNK for today….from the Bible:-

And here’s a cheerful Easter song to brighten your day!

THREE DAYS TO CHANGE THE WORLD

Home from Rome

Well done to all of you who have been sending in distances over the last few days.

We have covered another 28 miles.

We’ve got 203 miles left to go to Ditton!

Send in as many miles as you can – I will post an update again on Friday!

Good Morning Brown Clee!

Another lovely day, and another ‘THUNK of the day’!  Yesterday’s THUNK “Is black a colour” provoked this thought from Miss Greenan:

“Black to me is a shade or a mood. We use black to represent sadness, mourning, shadows, dullness, darkness, negativity. When asked about happy colours black is rarely or never chosen. In art, black can be used to shade areas or to show night time or darkness.”

I also wondered if black is just a lack of light – so darkness?

Anyway – today’s THUNK, especially for Rosie B, who enjoys the book by Charlie Mackesey, “The Boy, The Mole, The Fox and The Horse” so much…What does this page from the book make you think?

Here’s a song to sing along to as you play/work outside in the garden!

THE SEED SONG

Good Morning Brown Clee!

Good Morning!  I know this is technically the Easter Holiday – and there is no set work from the teachers, but because these are such strange days, and people might be missing contact, I thought we’d still say good morning!  I will be setting a ‘Thunk’ of the day each day and sharing a song!

The children are used to thinking and talking about ‘Thunks’ – but here is a little explanation and the rules that go with them:-

  • Thunks are thought provoking statement, questions or pictures, that we have a moment to consider and ponder before responding.
  • There are no wrong or right answers.
  • We have to provide a reason or explanation for our response.
  • We listen and respond respectfully.

Here is the THUNK of the day for today!

If you wish to share your ponderings about this THUNK, then please email them to admin@brownclee.shropshire.sch.uk and I will share!

Here’s a little Easter song as we approach the Easter weekend!

THE EASTER EGG TRAIL

The Golden Acorn by Catherine Cooper

Download free ebook now ready for next term

Class 3’s class reader next term is “The Golden Acorn” by Catherine Cooper.

In order to continue our class reading sessions, each child will need a copy of the book. Usually we each have a copy of the book at school, but because we are working from home we will need to do this slightly differently!

On Amazon at the moment the book is available free as an ebook. Please could you download this as soon as possible so that it is ready and waiting for the new term? Please find instructions on how to download the Kindle Reading App for PC/laptop here:

Please email me to let me know when you have your copy of the text. If you have any difficulties, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Class 3 make it back to England!

A super effort on our class fitness challenge Class 3! Don’t forget to keep sending your distances to our class email address over the Easter break. I shall post updates to let you know where we are up to.

Friday Update

Thank you for the pictures of your work you sent in today. I’ve got quite a few letters for the care home – which I will pass on to Miss Relph, who will email them over. If you’ve still got a letter you wish to share, you can email them to the class 4 email address (class4@brownclee.shropshires.sch.uk) and I can pass them on.

Here’s some of your work from today:

Whilst I won’t be putting work on the website over the next two weeks (it’s the Easter holidays), if you still want to share any photos or videos of what you’ve been up to over the break, then email them to me and I can post them on the website for everyone else to see after the 2 weeks.

If you do start getting a bit bored over the break, remember, Rob Biddulph does his ‘draw-along’s every Tuesday and Thursday – http://www.robbiddulph.com/draw-with-rob – and there’s always Spelling Shed, TTRS and ReadTheory to keep you busy!

Have a good 2 weeks “off”, keep safe and I hope to see you all soon!

Sharing page

Goodbye Australia!

We have reached the end of the Spring Term and so the end of our topic on Australia. I hope you have enjoyed learning about this country.

To finish off the topic my sister, Gemma, who lives in New South Wales, has sent you some information about everyday life there. When she sent us the box of goodies for our cake sake, she also sent you some pencils, which I’ll give to you when we return to school.  If you want to ask Gemma anything about living in Australia, let me know and I’ll pass your question on to her.

Another mistake!!

Apologies, there’s (another!!) mistake in today’s answers for yesterday’s questions…

Here’s the correct answers for the blue problems of the day:

1.8kg was the mass of a sphere and not the mass of a cube – I really should make sure I read the question properly!

Fancy Dress Friday PE with Joe!

Hands up who joined in with Fancy Dress Friday PE with Joe Wicks!! Image result for hands up sign

I had a thought, if you sent in your photos of you in your costumes to admin@brownclee.shropshire.sch.uk then I will compile them (along with me and Mrs Morris – who also joined in and looked amazing!) and send them into Joe from everyone at Brown Clee!

Anyway – as promised – this is me in my 80s themed outfit joining in with Joe and everyone else this morning!

Reflection Time and Prayer of the Day

Good News: The Resurrection

Yesterday we thought about the Easter Story, when Jesus was crucified on the cross to save us all.  This day is now known as Good Friday?  What a strange name!  What was good about it?  Can you think of anything?

Today we are looking at Easter Sunday, which was when Jesus’ was resurrected.  Watch and listen to this short story by clicking on the picture:

Easter is a time of mixed feelings: sadness, confusion and loss, but also happiness, hope and joy. For Christians, Easter is a joyful time and reminds us that sadness does not last for ever.  So as we break up for our Easter break, away from each other, let’s have a moment to reflect and think to the future, the joy of being back together.

Easter is also a time of new starts, and so is Spring; so to put a smile on your face, what better way than sharing one of my favourite Spring songs – please join in!

SPRING CHICKEN

Prayer for the Day

Loving God,
Thank you that when awful things happen
sadness does not last for ever.
Thank you for the surprise beginnings
that today will hold in store.
Amen.

Mrs Fox

Good Morning Brown Clee!

What a strange way to end the Spring Term – no Well Done Assembly, House Point Presentation or Easter Celebrations! But every day is a new day and takes us a day closer to being back together – whenever that may be!  So for the first time ever I’d like to present a virtual Well Done Certificate to the entire school community for being absolute superstars in working together, communicating together to ensure the school partnership carried on!

The teachers will be setting the last day’s activities for the term – so please enjoy!  We are so thrilled with the response from children and parent in carrying out the activities that the teachers are posting.  We appreciate the challenges, such as having children in different year groups, having working parents or other commitments, but every single thing that you have done has been brilliant – thank you and well done!

I’d like to wish everyone a restful Easter; it will be different as we will all be at home with family rather than heading away for holidays or day-trips.  But living in the beautiful Shropshire countryside is a definite bonus – so I look forwards to hearing all about the fab things you get up to when we get back together, in whatever format that will be on April 20th.

I’m about to go and get myself ready for Fancy Dress Friday with Joe Wicks – see you there!

Class 4 – Activities at Home – 03.04.20

Before you start today, check out yesterday’s answers.

As always, you don’t have to do these activities at a set time or in a set order – that’s all up to you. Also, you don’t have to be doing work all day! Feel free to send in some pictures or videos of some of the other things you have been doing at home.

There will be 4 hive games today:

Game 1 (slightly easier) – 1:30pm – 876630
Game 2 (slightly harder) – 1:35pm – 511161
Game 3 (hard) – 1:40pm – 287580
Game 4 (v. hard) – 1:45pm – 303337

Today’s games will be open to Class 3 again, and remember, anyone to beat Miss Relph will win a prize! We have 7 winners so far!

Challenge of the day

If you were just to count the small squares, then you should have got 64. However, there are not just small squares. Here’s a pictures showing a 1×1 square, a 3×3 square and a 2×2 square:

When we start exploring these different sized squares, there are 49 2×2 squares, 36 3×3 squares, 25 4×4 squares, 16 5×5 squares, 9 6×6 squares, 4 7×7 squares and 1 8×8 square.

Therefore, there are 64 + 49 + 36 + 25 + 16 + 9 + 4 + 1 (or 204) squares on a chessboard.

Does anyone notice something interesting about all of these numbers?

Here’s a video showing all these possible different squares you can find:
