Lost Property

Our lost property box is bursting at the seams with items of school uniform, socks and other clothing that have been misplaced around school.  We will be putting the box out on the playground at the end of the day, as well as encouraging children to have a browse so that we can return the clothing items to their rightful owner.

If the items were named, we would be able to return the clothing directly – so a helpful reminder of the importance of naming uniform.

Please do check the Lost Property Box – and you can always ask the children about what will happen to any items not claimed!

Wear One Thing Christmassy Day – Friday

Don’t forget it is ‘Wear One Thing Christmassy Day’ this Friday – it just needs a donation – of Pants or Pounds for Karibuni Children!

Spelling Shed

Please can the children ensure that they do use Spelling Shed throughout the week to learn the phonic sounds or spelling patterns that have been taught each week.

Miss Relph sets assignments for the Year 1 children, as they have their phonic session with her.

For the Year 2 children, each spelling pattern that they have been taught in class will be set as an assignment but there are very few children accessing these, each week.

The log in details for your child will be in their blue reading record. Please get in touch if you have any problems.

Many  thanks for your support.

Christmas Dinner reminder

Don’t forget the children will be served their Christmas Lunch next Wednesday.  The last date you can pre-book your child’s meal is Monday but we would appreciate it if you could book this weekend (please select the roast dinner option – as although this shows roast beef it will be the Christmas dinner).  If you haven’t yet activated your child’s ParentPay account please contact the school office urgently for a copy of their activation code.

Don’t forget all children in Fireflies and Grasshopper are entitled to free meals under the Government’s Universal Infant Free School Meals Scheme.

Healthy Living Week – HYGIENE

Today we are thinking about how we keep ourselves healthy through looking after our personal hygiene.  Hygiene means the practice of keeping clean to stay healthy and prevent disease, and includes washing our hands, brushing our teeth and having a shower or bath.

Brushing our teeth is a really important part of oral hygiene – do you know how to do it properly?

So you should:-

  • Brush in a small circle movement on top, behind and in front of teeth. Don’t forget to brush the gums too. This should take about 2 minutes.
  • Use a pea-sized blob of toothpaste.
  • After brushing, spit out any excess toothpaste. Don’t rinse your mouth immediately after brushing, as it’ll wash away the concentrated fluoride in the remaining toothpaste.

Cleaning hands is important – why?

Healthy Living Week – SLEEP

We have been continuing with our Healthy Living Week, and today have been learning about the importance of sleep.  We have had a think about the following questions:-

Why do we need sleep?

How much sleep do we need?

What can we do to make sure we get enough sleep?

Healthy Living Week – EXERCISE

Today we have been looking at why exercise is important and the different ways that we can exercise.  We talked about how exercise is important to help look after our bones, our muscles, our longs and our heart – and also our brain!

We also had a think about the question of “How long should we exercise each day?”

Then we discussed the different ways that we can exercise – and how being active is actually good fun!

Swimming – 07.12

We have our final swimming session tomorrow. This is an additional session from the original dates. All children in class today were made aware of this; however, I am aware some were absent today and will have therefore missed the message.

Healthy Living Week – FOOD

This week we are looking at why we need to look after ourselves to ensure that we can live a healthy life in our Healthy Living Week.

Today we have been thinking about why we need food …

We have also been learning about how important it is to eat a balanced diet and used the Eatwell Plate Guide to help us understand the different food types.

We also looked at the difference between unprocessed, processed and super-processed foods…

We then looked at the energy content of different foods…

We had some interesting answers to the question about how much energy an 8 year old child would need from 20,000kj to 100kj!  It is actually 7000kj.

We finished by reminding ourselves of how important it is that we look after our bodies, and that one way we can do this is by eating a balanced and healthy diet.

Swimming

Our last swimming session for this term will be on Tuesday 7th December.

Please Note: this is different to the original plan as we had to miss a session earlier in the term.

We have really enjoyed our sessions and we would like to thank the staff at the Leisure Centre in Ludlow for accommodating all of us!

Money Games

This week, in our maths work we have been focusing on money.  Please find below some money games that I have shown the children in class. The children were keen to play them at home and will help support their learning.

Nativity – A Miracle In Town!

This week, the children have been given their lines to learn for our class nativity.

Please could you support your child to learn their lines. Those children with narrator parts do not need to learn their lines off by heart, but they do need to be very familiar with the words so that they can read them fluently and confidently.

Unfortunately, we will have to video our performance to be viewed online, as we did last year. We all feel very disappointed that we can’t do a proper performance, this year, but we are still having fun learning the songs and rehearsing our parts. Fingers crossed that next year we will be back on stage with an audience.

Many thanks for your support.

Christmas Post Box

Our Christmas Post Box will be open on Monday 6th to Friday 10th December in the school’s practical area for children to post any Christmas cards that they may wish to send to each other.  We will then deliver the cards the following week.

The children will be served their Christmas Lunch on Wednesday 15th December, the menu is below.  Please can we ask that you log onto ParentPay by the end of the previous week to pre-book your child’s meal (please select the roast dinner option – as although this shows roast beef it will be the Christmas dinner).  If you haven’t yet activated your child’s ParentPay account please contact the school office for a copy of their activation code.

 HEALTHY LIVING WEEK

Next week we are planning to focus on the importance of living a healthy life and taking care of ourselves.  This will involve looking at healthy diets, the importance of sleep and exercise, and how we can keep ourselves healthy by looking after our teeth, hair and hygiene.

School Photograph Orders

Please could you ensure that all photograph orders are sent into the School Office by Friday morning at the latest. The photographer is coming to collect them that day so he can ensure that they will be with you in time for Christmas.

Christmas Cards from Karibuni

It is that time of year when we are all starting to think about the festive seasons and to help you in your search for Christmas Cards we thought you might be interested in the Christmas cards that are sold by our school’s charity – Karibuni Children.

They are hand-made batik Christmas cares in packs of 6 with a mix of 3 Designs for £4.00.  If you click on the picture it will take you to the Karibuni Children website.

The greeting on an insert inside each card is: Wishing you a Happy Christmas and a Peaceful New Year. Each card is hand-made by refugees from other African countries living in Kenya and based at the Jesuit Refugee Service in Nairobi. Using these cards Karibuni Children is working in partnership with JRS toward the self reliance of the refugees and continuing to help the children in the projects. (As each card is individually made, designs and colours will vary.)

Free Courses for Parents

Did you know that as a resident of Shropshire you can access free courses to help with some of the challenges of being a parent and understand more about how your child may be feeling.  There is help for expectant parents as well as parents of babies up to teenagers and as some courses are offered face to face it is a chance to meet with other parents who may be experiencing the same challenges.  There is also a course designed specifically for teenagers to help them understand how their brain is changing.  Please see the attached posters for more information on how to book onto these courses.

Musical Instrument Lessons with Shropshire Music Service

We are very keen to try and encourage more children to have a go at learning a musical instrument. Learning a musical instrument not only sustains and feeds the brain, but it also improves so many other cognitive and physical aspects of the human body. It’s been widely studied and proven that learning a musical instrument improves memory; it not only improves your cognitive memory but also muscle memory as well.  And of course it can broadens childrens’ education and enrichens their life’s experience as well as providing pleasure and relaxation!

Last week Mrs Karen Kirkland, our music teacher from Shropshire Music Service led an assembly to try and show children the broad range of instruments that they could learn – anything from a recorder to the drums, violin to trumpet! If you are interested to find out more click on this link below:-

Reflection Time and Prayer of the Day

Good Morning Brown Clee!

We have been continuing our theme of THANKFULNESS this week and reflecting on how important it is to appreciate the world around us.  Yesterday we looked at another word for THANKFULNESS – Gratitude – and how we can sometimes forget to say thank you.

I wonder why this is?  Why do we forget to show our gratitude and appreciation?  Is it because we are too busy or are we taking things for granted?

Have a watch of this video from The Pace Trust – it was filmed a while ago in the pandemic so you will see refences to being thankful for the NHS – but have a think as you watch it and think about what you can do to ensure you don’t forget to say thank you.

Have you thought – how can you develop an attitude of gratitude – so that we don’t take things or people for granted.

Prayer of the Day

For families and friends . . .
We are thankful.
For the beauty of nature and the world around us . . .
We are thankful.
For all the things in life that we too often take for granted . . .
We are thankful.
Please help us to be willing to show our thanks – not only in what we say, but also in what we do – every single day . . .
We are thankful.
Amen.

Times Table Super Stars!

You will be aware that Brown Clee was the top school nationally in last week’s Times Table Rock Star’s, but it reminded us that we have done well over the last 3 years – we came second last year, and won it 3 years ago!  Not bad for a small village school in rural Shropshire!  This has been picked up by TTRS who are going to showcase Brown Clee on their website…well done Brown Clee!
