Nativity Costumes

If your child has been asked to provided a costume for the nativity performance, please can they bring it into school by Friday 8th December.

If you have it ready before that date, please feel free to send them in from Monday. Please ensure that they are in a plastic bag, which is clearly labelled.

We appreciate parents providing costumes. For the past few years we have managed to sort out a costume for all the children but some of them are now looking very well-worn.

Many thanks,

Mrs Morris & Mrs Fox

Spelling Shed – Year 2

Please encourage your child to use Spelling Shed to learn the new spelling patterns taught in Year 2.

Log in details can be found in the front of their yellow reading record.

I have set assignments for each new spelling pattern, covered in class.

Once they have logged on, they need to click on ‘View’ in the ‘Assignments’ box. (See below)

I will check the activity of each child, every week and the children can see how they are doing on the class league table.

It does have a big impact on their spelling skills!

5 – 10 minutes each day, if possible. Please let me know if you have any issues with Spelling Shed.

Many thanks.

TTRS England Rocks Maths Week

What another fabulous England Rocks Maths Week we have had with every KS2 class taking part in this national  competition against over 4000 other schools….primary and secondary. The children have taken the spirit of this competition to heart again, and as a result have achieved some tremendous successes!

At one point the Scorpions were the top of the league, and throughout, as a school we have been in the top 5 schools. There have been some tremendous achievements from some individuals….but the best bit has been the sheer determined attitude, the true grit and  friendly competition to just be the best “timetabler” that everyone can be….I have never seen the playground so quiet at lunchtime!

The competition has ended and we have come the 3rd highest primary school in the country….an amazing achievement for a small school in Shropshire, with less than 90 KS2 children! Well done everyone!

Your achievements have been noticed by Bruno from Maths Circle, who is the mastermind behind TTRS…and in recognition of the continuing achievements of Brown Clee School, he has sent you all this special video message…..

Well done everyone…..you are true Times Table Rock Heroes!

Mud Run – Friars Playing Fields

A reminder for the Y4-6 pupils attending the mud run on Wednesday that it would be avisable to bring a towel and additional dry clothes (either to take with them or parents to bring at pick-up) to put on over their wet/muddy clothes – or to change into. Miss Rock (who has organised the event from Bridgnorth Endowed School) has said that she will be bringing bin bags for children to sit on during their journey home, but you may wish to also bring your own.

The original letter stated children would need to wear their Brown Clee P.E. kits for this even; however, you may prefer them to wear something that you do not mind getting particularly muddy. They can get changed into these before leaving school on the day.

This year, parents are to pick children up from Friars Playing Fields (as opposed to Bridgnorth Endowed Leisure Centre – as in previous years). The event is due to finish at 15:30.

Art work

Grasshoppers have been learning about ‘Pop art’ this term. We have focused on the artists Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein.
The children have created two different self portraits and repeated the image to create an Andy Warhol inspired piece of work.
They have also designed their own comic book style onomatopoeia word. In the background, the children have used the Ben-Day dot technique, which both Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein used in their work.
We also created digital ‘Pop art’ images of the children with a superhero background.

Emails delivery errors

Unfortunately, emails are not being delivered to specific email accounts when we are sending out emails. These seemed to almost all be gmail accounts.

This is the following message that we are receiving when attempting to email these accounts:

Your message wasn’t delivered. Despite repeated attempts to deliver your message, the recipient’s email system refused to accept a connection from your email system.

Contact the recipient by some other means (by phone, for example) and ask them to tell their email admin that it appears that their email system is refusing connections from your email server. Give them the error details shown below. It’s likely that the recipient’s email admin is the only one who can fix this problem.

For Email Admins
No connection could be made because the target computer actively refused it. This usually results from trying to connect to a service that is inactive on the remote host – that is, one with no server application running. For more information and tips to fix this issue see this article: https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=389361

Home Learning Guidance

We have had some queries about how to use TTRS, Numbots and Spelling Shed, which are 3 APPS that children can use to help them with retaining their spellings and number facts – which is the only home learning we ask for alongside reading.

These are guides for parents:

TTRS :

Numbots:

Spelling Shed: Guide for ParentsGuide for Parents

Remember, home learning is purely to help children remember and retain number facts and spellings – and little and often is best eg 3 minutes four to five times a week. We also would recommend that children are reading daily, as this is one of the biggest precursors to future success.

Fireflies Visit to John The Baptist Church

Yesterday the fireflies had a fantastic visit to John the Baptist Church here in Ditton Priors.  This was as part of their R.E. learning where they were finding out about the features of a Christian place of worship and the features within.

We were met by Reverend Joe Simons who gave the children a talk and tour of the church, and then we had to go on a scavenger hunt to find different features of the church. We all really enjoyed the visit and learnt lots – thank you so much Reverend Joe!

Coffee and Chat Drop-In: Wednesday 6th December

We are trying something new on Wednesday 6th December – an informal Coffee and Chat Drop-In Session where parents can come into school for some coffee and cake and enjoy a chat with other parents. We find that we have conversations with parents on so many themes, where there are issues with sleeping patterns, fussy eating, difficulties with encourage reading, mild behavioural challenges, that we thought it might be useful to provide the opportunity for parents to share – as so many of you have got such great ideas to remedy these issues!

We have also invited Andrea Marshall, who is an experienced child behaviouralist, so that if you have any particular burning questions or concerns she is happy to chat it over and help in anyway she can.

So please share and come along – if it is a success it might be something we can repeat!

Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal

Our box of poppies has been delivered and is in Reception if anyone would like to purchase a Poppy. We have some of the new all paper poppies alongside the tradition ones and sticky ones for the children. There are some crosses for graves which are being kept in the office if you would like one of these.

****Cheerleaders needed*****

****Cheerleaders needed*****

There are still three places left for cheerleading club this term – these places need to be filled for the club to continue after this week!

It is a great club where the children get to have a go at routines, jumps, gymnastics skills and more. There will be a showcase on the last session of term where parents can see what the children have learnt.

If your child wants to have a go please send clearly marked payment of £20 (for the 4 weeks) into the office asap.
