Spelling Shed & Numbots/Times Table Rock Stars

As part of your child’s homework they will have access to Spelling Shed, Numbots and Times Table Rock Stars.

Your child has their log in details for these games in the front of their yellow reading records.

Numbots and Times Table Rock Stars have the same log in details.

Children in Year 1 can use Numbots and after Christmas Year 2 children can begin to use TTRS as well.

Spelling Shed will help your child learn the ‘Common Exception’ words that they need to be able to read and spell by the end of Key Stage 1. It will also help to support them with spelling words containing all the sounds and letter patterns from Phases 2 – 6.

I can see how many times each child has accessed these games throughout the week and so will check on a Thursday that children are completing Spelling Shed and Numbots.

If you have any problems accessing any of the games, please get in touch.

Waterbottles and Waterproof Coats

We have had a number of accidents with open top waterbottles so can we please remind parents to ensure children bring a non-drip waterbottle to school.

Waterbottles are often kept on class tables, and when an open top bottle gets knocked – the water floods the tables and can damage children’s work.

Can we also please remind parents to send their child with a warm waterproof coat EVERY day  – as we will get children outside at breaktimes as much as possible – even in wet weather, as they need the ‘downtime’ and fresh air.

School Meals

Have you pre-ordered your child’s school meals for next week? The children are really enjoying back in the hall to eat, and the delicious new menu has gone down a treat…so don’t forget to get your orders in on Parent Pay!

End of Day Collection

Can we please ask parents not to access the infant playground at the end of the day until a member of staff has opened the gate or permitted access – this will be at approximately 3:10pm.  This is for safeguarding purposes.

Cross Country

Just a quick note for those attending tomorrow’s after-school cross country event at Albrighton Primary School.

I (Mr Harley) will be attending the event to organise where/when children will be racing. The first race each week will start at 4:30pm and will be Y3 girls and then Y3 boys and so on.

The event organisers have asked all schools to ask parents not to stand or run anywhere on the course and that course marshals will be there to help with this.

Just to clarify, there are three events and the final event at Idsall school is on 21st September and not October as stated on the return slip.

Burwarton Bus – Delay

Apologies but we have a delay with the Burwarton Bus – children are all ok and we are holding them at school until it turns up.  Please share.

Class Information

We thought we would give you some helpful pointers with regards sources of information on the school website.  If you have subscribed then you will automatically receive emails notifying you of new class and school news.  However, there is also a whole host of relevant and useful information on your class Information Pages – and you have to actually find that page – there is no short cut.  On these pages you will find termly information about PE, Curriculum, Routines and General Information and they are well worth looking at.  Here is how you find it:-
  1. Select Parents Area
  2. Select Classes
  3. Choose your child’s class.
  4. Select Information Tab.
And there you will find lots of useful information!
We really value open and clear communication – and do endeavour to ensure that we are open, helpful and informative as possible.  Don’t forget also that you can email your class teacher directly using the class emails.  Teachers will respond when they can and there is no such thing as a silly question!
Also, remember to please keep us informed, either via the class teacher email or the school office, of any information that will help us to support your child.

End of Day Collections

We have experienced a few issues the last 2 days at the end of the day when parents are collecting their children.  So can we please ask parents to consider the following points:-

  1. Please do not park in the layby where the school buses park as this causes delays and congestion.
  2. Please maintain some social distancing to be considerate to everyone.
  3. Please collect children and leave the playground promptly.
  4. Please park off the school site and walk if at all possible.
  5. We are going to implement a one-way system at the end of the day to reduce congestion and improve social distancing. All parents who are collecting children from school need to enter via the Infant Playground, where they meet and collect their children.  Parents then walk up the path to the Top Gate to leave school – this will allow for a one way-system which should help reduce congestion. We also ask that parents maintain sensible spacing on the playground and that parents leave promptly once they have collected their child/children.

School Transport

We have a list of children who are confirmed booked onto school transport.  It is really important that parents let us know if their child is not going home on the bus – either as a one off or on regular days.  We need this information to ensure that the children get home safely – either by being collected or going home on school transport – we are unable to take your child’s voice – we need you to let us know.

School Meals

Our new school meal system where you pre order meals is now up and running.  Can we please remind parents that you need to book in advance – so book your child’s meals by Thursday for the week ahead.  This includes Free School Meals as well – you just don’t make any payment but you still need to book your choice of meal. You can also book for a whole half term to make your life easier!  This system means that every child is guaranteed a meal of their choice.

If you need a reminder of your activation access details or any assistance with booking then please do contact us.

Reflection Time and Prayer of the Day

Good Morning Brown Clee! (It’s been a long time since I could say that!)

I hope you have all had a restful and enjoyable summer – and that you are as excited as I am to be back in school – I have been so looking forwards to meeting everyone arrive back this morning – I have missed your bright cheery smiles and greetings!

I’d like to wish everyone a massive welcome back – and a super big welcome to our new Reception children – all 21 of you – who have just joined the Fireflies.  I would also like to offer a big welcome to 2 new members of staff – Miss Burton and Mrs Morris (a new Mrs Morris!) who will be working with the Fireflies and I would also like to welcome Mrs Heath back to school – we have all missed her and are delighted she is back teaching the Dragonflies!

Next week we will be holding our assemblies ‘live’ in the hall – where we will be all together – which will be the first time for over a year and a half – something which I am very much looking forwards to as assemblies are such special times and I have missed being able to be with everyone!

Today is the start of our new academic year – and the word NEW has particular relevance this September – as lots of things will seem very new to all of us due to the disruption we have had.  I wonder if you can think of what these NEW things might be?….

Well I have already mentioned that we will be able to hold assemblies in the hall next week – and these are very special times – as these are the times that we ALL get together every day to share thoughts, reflections and praise to God – and being all together is so important to us – as we are the Brown Clee Team!

Another NEW thing is that we will be back to eating our lunch together in the school hall – and we will be able to have proper hot meals, with choices and eat at tables with our friends from other classes as well as our own.  Another new aspect of school meals is that you now have the chance to pre-order your menu choice to ensure that you can get the meal that you want – so please make sure you remind your parents to make your bookings!  We will also be holding lunch in 2 sittings – Infants and Juniors – to allow for a more calm, quiet and sociable lunch experience – plus we will be welcoming Pre-School back to join us for lunch!

The class ‘bubbles’ have now gone and you will be able to mingle and play together as well as eat together!  And the 1-way systems have also gone!

There are still school rules – and I will be talking about the importance of those next week – and I am sure your class teachers will be sharing and reteaching the rules and expectations as you start today – as these rules are what help keep the school a happy, safe and harmonious place for everyone.

I am sure you, like me, are looking forwards to this new school year – being with your friends, learning lots of new skills and knowledge and having the chance to take part in lots of new experiences such as sports, drama, music and trips – YES! – trips will be back and we have a very exciting one for the Dragonflies later on this term – watch this space!!!

Which reminds me of something else that is new – the class names!  Here they are:-

The Fireflies are taught by Mrs Fox and Mrs Morris.

The Grasshoppers are taught by Mrs Morris and Mrs Cains.

The Dragonflies are taught by Mrs Heath.

The Scorpions are taught by Mr Harley.

The names are going to take a bit of getting used to – and I will need your help to correct me if I revert back to calling them Class numbers!

I know there will be lots of other NEW things – like making new friends, new learning, new experiences – but for now I just want everyone to enjoy the newness of starting or being back in school – a more normal school. NEW can be exciting – but it can also sometimes make us feel worried or nervous – so it is so important that we look out for each other and help each other and work together to ensure that we really can provide a safe, happy place where we can all learn and grow together.

Let’s just take a moment to think and reflect on our feelings of being back together in school – have a think about what you are looking forwards to, and what you can do to help make sure we all can be the best that we can be.  Let’s remind ourselves of the greatest rule of all according to God…

Prayer of the Day

If we could now have a quiet moment of reflection and join in with the School prayer…

Dear God

Thank you for our wonderful school.

Help us to be good learners.

Help us to look after each other.

Help us be respectful and kind and to make everyone welcome.

May our school be a happy, safe place where learning is fun.

Where we all work together to be the best we can be.

Amen

Grasshoppers – Useful Information for the start of term

Welcome to Grasshoppers!

I hope you have all had a wonderful summer break and enjoyed spending time with your families.

Hopefully, you all feel refreshed and ready for the new school year ahead!

Our topic for the Autumn term is SUPERHEROES!

Click on the link below to have a look at what the children will be learning.

Autumn Term Overview – Superheroes

Please find below some information about the ‘Grasshoppers’.

Monday – Thursday, the class is taught by Mrs Morris. On a Friday, the class is taught by Mrs Cains.

Grasshoppers will be supported by Mrs Markall (Mon – Weds) and Miss Horton (Mon – Fri)

This year, we have 16 Year 2 children and 14 Year 1 children.

PE Days

Monday: Gymnastics & Dance (Indoor PE kit)

Friday: Games (Outdoor PE kit – Tracksuit bottoms and a hoodie can be worn as the weather becomes cooler. These need to be plain black or navy, not pink and sparkly!)

Water bottles

Please can water bottles be plastic, not metal and have non spill spouts.

Bags and Coats

The children will need one bag for their belongings which will be placed in the cloakroom at the start of the day. They will bring their reading book and water bottle into the classroom only. There will be a box outside the classroom for lunchboxes to be stored.

Children must bring a warm, waterproof coat every day. They will be going outside at playtime whatever the weather.

Please ensure that all belongings are named, especially school jumpers, cardigans, coats and bags.

Trinkets and toys

Please can you ensure that the children do not bring into school small soft toys, trinkets or other small toys from home. The children are very welcome to bring in books, photographs or work they have done at home that is relevant to our topic in school.

Reading

The children will be expected to read regularly throughout the week. If the children have read and had their reading record signed by an adult at home or if they have finished their book and need a new one, they can put it into the ‘blue box’ in the classroom.

In the back of their reading record they will have a slip of card to track how many times they have read at home. Numbers will be crossed off each time they have their reading record signed.

Homework

Homework is reading, learning the spellings for their year groups and learning their times tables. To support them to do this they will have access to ‘Spelling Shed’, ‘Numbots’ and ‘TimesTable Rock Stars’.

I will give the children log in details for these and put more detailed information about spellings and times tables on the class page, at the beginning of term.

(You can also find our school ‘Homework Policy’ on the school website.)

Please look out for regular updates on the Grasshoppers page of the school website. Here you will find reminders, photographs and information about the curriculum we follow in class.

If you ever have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me by email, send a note or arrange a telephone call/ appointment via the school office.

Our class email address, which you can contact me directly on, is: grasshoppers@brownclee.shropshire.sch.uk

New children to the Grasshoppers class – If your child is joining our class as a Year 1, please get in touch if there is anything in addition to the information above that you would like to know or if you feel there is anything you think would be helpful for me to know, before the children return on Thursday.

I hope you all enjoy the last few days of the summer break. I’m really looking forward to seeing you all and starting our exciting topic!

Parent Pay Activation

One week to go before we all return to school and so far we have had 39% of parents activate their Parent Pay account.  If you are going to want your child to have a school meal you need to activate your Parent Pay account and place your orders online on the Parent Pay APP or website.  You should have received your activation letter by paper at the end of term, or via email during the summer holidays (new Reception parents). If you have any questions regarding activating your account please do contact us on admin@brownclee.shropshire.sch.uk.

Year 6 Leavers’ Assembly 2021

Here are this year’s Year 6s sharing their memories of their time at Brown Clee.

An extra thank you to the year 5s (Hugo and Ruby) who shared George’s and Aggie’s memories (who both unfortunately were not in school for the last few days).

ParentPay Activation

Can we please remind parents of the importance of activating their ParentPay account ahead of the Autumn Term.  Without this you will be unable to order a school meal as we need to have pre-orders in before the start of term.

The menus are all up and running now, so you can sign in and order your September meals at any point from now – why not get ahead of the game and book your meals so it is one less job to do before September?

Farm Maps

Class 2 have finished off their work on ‘Farming’ by designing their own farms. The children planned what they wanted on their farm and made a rough design on A4. They then transferred this onto larger paper and made labels and a sign with the name of their farm on it.

Thank You!

We would like to say a massive thank you to all our families for their support throughout this strangest of years!  We really appreciate and value the partnership, working together to ensure we can do our very best for the children.

Wishing you a wonderful summer and we look forwards to welcoming everyone back to school on Thursday 2nd September.

thankyou

Power Cut

Due to our power being off all morning, we are unable to provide a hot school meal today for the children – so instead they will be having a packed lunch, which we are all going to eat in a 4 bubble whole school picnic on the field.

Reflection Time and Prayer of the Day

Good morning Brown Clee!

Here we are at the end of a strange and challenging, but also busy, positive and successful school year!  It is the last day at Brown Clee School for our year 6s and we are all nearly at the beginning of a well-deserved summer break!

There has still been lots of good learning taking place, along with some fun activities such as Class 1’s Africa Day (the African drumming was particularly entertaining for Mrs Lloyd and myself!), we held our year 6 Leavers Assembly and it was lovely to be able to welcome parents to the occasion – even if they were socially distancing and outside!

I hope everyone enjoys this day and that we can all celebrate the final Well Done certificates of this academic year…

I would like to say a massive thank you to everyone – all the children, parents and staff – who have worked together so well to ensure that we can continue to provide the best learning experiences for our children – despite the best efforts of the virus!  Your commitment and support is very much appreciated – have a restful and relaxing summer break and I look forwards to welcoming us all back together in September!

It is now Worship Time where we reflect and think about how we can push ourselves, to be brave and bold, to always do our best, to keep on trying even when things get tough, so that we can shine and reach for the stars!

Tomorrow (Friday) afternoon – Class 4

Tomorrow, Class 4 children will need to come into school in their P.E. kits. Boys are best wearing swimming shorts and P.E. top. Girls can bring a swimming costume – which they can get changed into at lunchtime and then wear under their P.E. kit.

All will need to bring spare clothes to change into at the end of the day. These need to be something which is quick and easy to get changed into.

A large plastic bag would also be useful for transporting wet clothes back home at the end of the day. A towel will also be useful. Hopefully, if the weather is warm enough for the clothes being worn to dry, there will be no need to actually change at the end of the day.
