Coronation Celebrations – Friday 5th May

Good Morning,

This is just a reminder that children can wear red, white and blue clothing, or royalty themed clothing, on Friday to celebrate the coronation of King Charles III.

We are hoping that the children can have their lunch outside on the playground as a treat, but this is weather dependent.

School Lunches – Tuesday 2nd May

Pippa has asked us to let you know of a change in menu next Tuesday. The 2 main choices will be Pizza and Vegetable Chilli. Unfortunately, we cannot amend the menu in ParentPay to reflect this change. If your child would like Pizza please select the Chicken Hotpot option and if they would like the Vegetable Chilli please select the Vegetable Chow Mein option. As always, there will also be the choice of Jacket Potato and Cheese or Ham sandwich.

Celebration of the Coronation of King Charles III

This year sees the Coronation of King Charles 3rd on Saturday 6th May and we very much want to celebrate this historic occasion.

So on Friday 5th May school uniform is optional and children may wear red, white and blue or regal themed clothing instead.  They will also be enjoying a special whole school picnic lunch (normal school meals are still available.

Dance Club for year 2

Monday’s Dance Club has spaces which we are opening up to year 2.

These are fun sessions where children get to try a wide variety of dance styles such as street dance, tap and Irish dancing.

If your child would like to take part please send a cheque for £15 into the school office along with a completed reply slip (attached) as soon as possible to allow them to join in for the next session.

Cheques made payable to Shropshire Council.

Many thanks,

Steph Boxall

Little Explorers Pre-School Fundraising for new Outdoor Area

Little Explorers needs OUR help!

We would like to support Pre-School with their fundraising as they are wanting to develop and resource the new outdoor area that they can now use.  Since they had their extension built, the children had very little outdoor learning and play space.  We work very closely with Little Explorers as they are a vital facility for the community, and as we have so much outdoor space, and with the recent removal of the rotten, old adventure playground we have offered this space to pre-school.  But it is an empty plot of land at the moment and Pre-School need resources – so we want to help them as much as possible.  Their current fundraiser is to ‘Grow a Sunflower’:

Marmalade Loaf Cake

In English, Grasshoppers have been listening to Paddington Bear stories. We have also been learning about the famous landmarks of modern London after exploring how the city changed, after the ‘Great Fire’. We have enjoyed seeing these landmarks in the stories of Paddington.

This morning, some of the Grasshoppers made two marmalade loaf cakes.
They went down very well, with the children happy to have a second piece!

I hope you all have a wonderful Easter break.

Amendment to school dinner menu – Thursday 16th March

As previously advised, due to the weather conditions last week, the catering delivery for the kitchen did not take place and, therefore, Pippa has had to make changes to the menu for Thursday. If you have booked Keralan Chicken Curry for your child they will be having sausages and herby diced potatoes, the cauliflower and sweet potato masala will be served as planned. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

Morning Breaktime Snacks

Can we please remind parents that if children are bringing in a snack for morning play it should be a piece of fruit or vegetables, no snack bars please.  All infant children do get offered a piece of fruit from within school, and under 5s are offered a carton of milk.

Fire Service Talk

Yesterday afternoon, the Grasshoppers were very lucky to have a visit from Mr Bloore from West Midlands Fire Service.

We explored the fire fighting methods in 1666 compared to modern day. We also looked at how fire engines, uniform and equipment has changed and developed over the years.

Mr Bloore brought in his uniform for the children to look at and try on! We agreed that it is very heavy and hot to wear and that fire fighters do an incredible job in our communities.

The children were also taught about dangers and hazards in the home and the fire safety technique –  Stop, Drop, Roll.

We would like to thank Mr Bloore for his time visiting us, we really enjoyed the afternoon.

Amendment to School dinner menu Tuesday 14th March

Due to the weather conditions last week, the catering delivery for the kitchen did not take place and, therefore, Pippa has had to make changes to the menu tomorrow. If you have booked chicken noodle stir fry for your child they will be having chicken pie and if they were booked to have vegetable lasagne they will be having Chinese rice. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

Gymnastics

Grasshoppers have been doing some brilliant gymnastics, this term. I’ve been really impressed with their focus and determination. They have also worked very well with their partners and supported each other to achieve the correct body position and helped each other to make improvements.

School is Closed today- Friday 10th March

Due to weather and road conditions we are closed today, as is Little Explorers Pre School. stay safe.

School Closed Thursday 9th March

Having closely monitored the current road conditions and weather forecast into tomorrow, we have made the decision to close the school tomorrow, 9th March. Little Explorers pre-School will also be closed.
This decision was not taken lightly, but with safety at the forefront, and observing the forecast changes, it seems the sensible decision.

Escooters and Powered Vehicles

We would just like to draw parents attention to the regulations for Escooters and other powered vehicles:

It is illegal to use a powered transporter:

  • on a public road without complying with a number of legal requirements, which potential users will find very difficult
  • in spaces that are set aside for use by pedestrians, cyclists, and horse-riders; this includes on the pavement and in cycle lanes

Observational Drawings

Fireflies have been learning about the skill of Observational drawing, ‘drawing what you see.’ They have also studied the artwork of Bill Patterson and Art Fitzpatrick who are artists, famous for their drawings of automobiles.

Today Fireflies had the opportunity to put all the things they have learnt into practise. They had the extra special treat of drawing an Austin 7 which was kindly brought into school by Mr Richard Parry.

The children produced some fantastic pieces of artwork. Please take a look at the pictures below.
