TTRS Maths Week England Competition – England Rocks

Brown Clee have entered the Times Tables Rock Stars Maths Week England national competition called ‘England Rocks’ for the past 3 years, and if you look at the wall in Reception you will see the success that the children have had!
This week sees their 4th attempt to reach the wall of fame, and today is the final day of the competition….at the moment the school is in 2nd place!

The winning school is the one with the highest average number of correct answers per student, and the competition closes at 7.30pm today! There is a 60 minute limit playtime per student each day so we really need every point we can get.

Well done Brown Clee….this just shows what you can do if you work together…let’s show that team-spirit and really all put our 60 minutes in and see if we can earn another certificate….there is a place on the wall waiting!

Many thanks.

Reading at Home

Thank you to parents who attended our Parent Feedback sessions last week; we hope you found them informative and helpful.  We really value the partnership between home and school, as it is invaluable in order to help children be the best they can be.

We handed out the following leaflet regarding reading at home – and in case parents have misplaced it, or were unable to attend the sessions, here it is again.  We can not stress enough how important it is that children read every day!  Reading impacts learning across all subjects, and yes we teach reading, and practice it in school – but it is impossible to hear children all read individually.

If children are not fluent readers it can have significant negative impact on their future – so please, have a read of this leaflet and then open a book and read with your child!  C

Covid procedures

As winter is approaching and cases of Covid within the community may begin to increase, please could we remind you of the procedures to follow if your child tests positive or has a high temperature and signs of a respiratory infection.

* They should try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people for 3 days after the day they took the test or their symptoms began.
* If after 3 days, they feel well enough and do not have a high temperature they can return to school (this is because children tend to be infectious for less time than adults)

Please find below the link to the NHS guidance regarding Covid and children

ONLINE SAFETY

Young people use the internet for a variety of activities including games, research and homework and, of course, for accessing social networking sites. Whilst they are confident with the technology children are not always able to make the right decisions about what they access, who they talk to and what they might post about themselves and others on the internet.

Our website provides lots of information and guidance on the risks involved online, along with how you can help teach your children to avoid these risks.  These can be found if you click the following link:-

We would also like to share the following guidance

Child_Online_Safety_for_Parents_guidance_booklet

At our upcoming parents feedback sessions, we will be providing further information regarding the risks involved with children and the online world.

We had another visit to Ditton Priors Care Home yesterday when Megan, Kieran and Mollie enjoyed having a chat, reading stories and playing games with some of the residents. Kieran’s Bee Game was a particular favourite!

Parent Governor Election Outcome

Following our recent Parent Governor election we are delighted to announce that Mrs Julie Pinches has been renominated for another 4 years, and we would like to welcome Mrs Helena Simmonds as a new Parent Governor.

The Governing Body play an important role behind the scenes, working with the school staff to constantly seek to improve educational standards so that children and young people have the chance to realise their full potential. We are really appreciative of the support, time and commitment that all members of the Governing Body provide to the school, as they operate purely voluntarily.

Karibuni Children – Project

In assembly today we reminded ourselves of our school charity – Karibuni Children.

We have been supporting Karibuni Children for 3 years now, following a visit by Joy Murphy, one of the founding trustees.  We were delighted to welcome Joy back to school in the summer term, when she shared the news of her Spring visit, when she took our pant donations – all 1300 pairs of them!

We asked Joy what Karibuni would like our next project to be and she asked if we could collect more pants – as they are something that many children in the schools don’t have enough of.  So we have our collection baskets ready in the Reception Area…

and we will be collecting pants until the end of January when I will need to box them up and send to Joy so that she can take them out to Kenya on her Spring 2023 visit. I wonder if we can beat 1300 pairs this year!

Self-Portraits

In art, Fireflies have been learning the skills to create a self-portrait. They have used and developed their observational skills and explored mixing colours to create skin and lip tone.

They have also enjoyed looking at self-portraits by Van Gogh, Picasso and Kahlo. They have discussed the similarities and differences between the artist’s self-portraits and compared the portraits to their own artwork.

The work is up on display and the children are very proud of their achievements.

Care Club Superviser Vacancy: Friday after school

We have recently advertised for Care Club Supervisers and are delighted to inform you that after half term, Mrs Jayne Salisbury will be joining the team to support children in Care Club, along with Mrs Steph Boxall.

However, we do still have a vacancy for Care Club Supervision on Friday afternoon sessions.  If we are unable to fill this vacancy it may well mean that we are unable to offer Care Club provision on Friday afternoons after half term.

If you are interested in the position, please contact the School Office for further information.

New Menu

There will be a new lunch menu after half term and details can be found by clicking on the link below. This will shortly be live on ParentPay for bookings after half term –

Brown Clee Buddies return to Ditton Priors Care Home

We are absolutely delighted for our Brown Clee Buddies to be invited back to Ditton Priors Care Home! These weekly visits were such a highlight of our week, prior to Covid19, and both residents and children hugely benefited from the social interactions.

So when we received the call asking if we would like to resume our visits we jumped at the chance…and last week our first Brown Clee Buddies headed across to the Care Home to read stories, play games and have a chat!
