FOBCS Fundraising Meeting – Monday 3rd July 6pm

We are thrilled to announce that thanks to Carla and Louise, FOBCS are alive and kicking again, and the refreshments at Sports Day raised £120 for the school.

We are holding an informal, relaxed meeting in school on Monday 3rd July at 6pm to discuss ideas for future fundraising and we would like to encourage parents/grandparents to come and join us – as an active FOBCS does need everyone’s involvement.

So please come along and let’s see what we can do to work together to bring FOBCS to life!

Sports Morning – Tomorrow

We have been closely following the weather forecast and it seems to be clearing, so at this point in time we are planning to go ahead tomorrow morning.  Please do keep an eye on the website in the morning, just in case the weather forecast changes.

The school gates will open at 9.45am and races will start at 10am promptly.

FOBCS are kindly providing some teas, coffees and cakes (they might well need some help and support), and there will also be an ice cream on site (thank you Laura’s Ice-Creams).

Once the races are complete, children will be welcome to join their families for a picnic lunch and then will return to class at 1pm.  You are welcome to bring picnic blankets or chairs, but please note that we will be putting chairs out for parents, grandparents and families to sit on for the races.

Let’s keep our fingers crossed with the weather!

Sports Morning – Weather Watch

Just so you are aware, we are monitoring the weather forecasts (which are very variable dependent on which website you look at) with regards Sports morning on Wednesday.

At the moment the Met Office has no rain forecast so we will continue to monitor, but as the weather is very localised and changeable at the moment, please keep a watch on the website.  If we do have to rearrange we will be going for Thursday morning this week (29th June) – again weather dependent.

I wish we had a crystal ball!

Bodenham Arboretum trip

On Wednesday, Grasshoppers went on their class trip to Bodenham Arboretum, in Kidderminster.

Our day began with a guided tour of the arboretum with Sandra, Forest School leader. She talked to the children about all the different species of trees, some native and some non-native. We continued our tour with a visit to the working farm, which sits in the middle of the arboretum. The children enjoyed looking at all the animals. We looked at the old and new barns and Sandra talked about how farming methods have changed over the years.

We then walked over to the Forest School site for a session there. The children had a wonderful range of activities to choose from. Den building, bug hunting, clay modelling, weaving, natural printing with leaves, mud kitchen and rope climbing. They also toasted bread on the camp fire and had it with jam or honey from Sandra’s bees. After our session, we sat around the fire pit and had our lunch.

After lunch, we said goodbye to Sandra and went on our own walk before heading back to the coach.

We really enjoyed our day!

We will try to keep in the shade as much as possible.

Bees trip to Shrewsbury museum

Yesterday Bees enjoyed a trip to Shrewsbury Museum to take part in a workshop about Evolution and Inheritance. We have begun to investigate this as part of our science learning this term.
Our workshop leader was Hannah. She began with a timeline of the life of Charles Darwin, a leading scientist who researched and wrote about evolution. We had to place artefacts related to his life along the timeline. We then looked at fossils of trilobites and ammonites. We looked at their similarities and differences. We looked for variations relating to evolution and why certain types of these organisms would have survived and others died out.

Hannah showed us replica skulls of early humans and a 200 year old chimpanzee skull. We looked at how these early humans have evolved over millions of years into modern humans.
It was a really interesting workshop, we were able to put our classroom learning into practice by handling the artefacts and fossils. We discussed with each other what we could see and better understand how scientists use evidence and questioning to test their theories.

We all thoroughly enjoyed the day and would like to thank Shrewsbury Museum for hosting the workshop.

If you do forget to book a meal, please call the school office as we have the facility to book these on the day.

Dance Club Performance

Every Monday after school, we hold a dance club led by Miss Thornton from Crossbar Coaching.  The children are from Year 2 to Year 6, and they have learnt about a range of different types of dance from tap to Irish dancing.  Recently they have been practicing a contemporary dance, and this morning they performed it in front of the school.  They all really enjoy taking part, and they received some fabulous feedback from their peers.

There are spaces for after half term, and so if your child would like to join and are in Year 2 or above, then please email careclub@brownclee.shropshire.sch.uk to book your child’s place with Mrs Steph Boxall, our Extended Schools Coordinator.
