Class Trip – Grasshoppers

Our class trip is next week, on Wednesday 14th June.

Please can I politely remind parents/carers that the consent form and payment are due to be returned to school by Monday 12th June.

Club Spaces

There are still places available in the after school clubs – it is not too late to join in!

Yr 2-6 Dance on Monday

KS2 Art on Wednesday (only 1 place!)

KS1 Multisports on Thursday

Yr 2-6 Invasion Games on Friday (only 2 places!)

Email careclub@brownclee.shropshire.sch.uk for more info or drop payment into the school office this week (£30 for the term, Art Club £36) cheques made out to Shropshire Council.

Dance Club for year 2

Monday’s Dance Club has spaces which we are opening up to year 2.

These are fun sessions where children get to try a wide variety of dance styles such as street dance, tap and Irish dancing.

If your child would like to take part please send a cheque for £15 into the school office along with a completed reply slip (attached) as soon as possible to allow them to join in for the next session.

Cheques made payable to Shropshire Council.

Marmalade Loaf Cake

In English, Grasshoppers have been listening to Paddington Bear stories. We have also been learning about the famous landmarks of modern London after exploring how the city changed, after the ‘Great Fire’. We have enjoyed seeing these landmarks in the stories of Paddington.

This morning, some of the Grasshoppers made two marmalade loaf cakes.
They went down very well, with the children happy to have a second piece!

Fire Service Talk

Yesterday afternoon, the Grasshoppers were very lucky to have a visit from Mr Bloore from West Midlands Fire Service.

We explored the fire fighting methods in 1666 compared to modern day. We also looked at how fire engines, uniform and equipment has changed and developed over the years.

Mr Bloore brought in his uniform for the children to look at and try on! We agreed that it is very heavy and hot to wear and that fire fighters do an incredible job in our communities.

The children were also taught about dangers and hazards in the home and the fire safety technique –  Stop, Drop, Roll.

We would like to thank Mr Bloore for his time visiting us, we really enjoyed the afternoon.

Gymnastics

Grasshoppers have been doing some brilliant gymnastics, this term. I’ve been really impressed with their focus and determination. They have also worked very well with their partners and supported each other to achieve the correct body position and helped each other to make improvements.

After School Clubs

There are still places for next term’s after school clubs although they are filling up quickly!

Monday – Dance (Dragonflies, Bees, Scorpions)

Wednesday – Create Club 1 space  (Dragonflies, Bees, Scorpions)

Thursday – Multi Sports (Fireflies, Grasshoppers)

Friday – Invasion Games 2 spaces (Grasshoppers, Dragonflies, Bees, Scorpions)

Homework – Grasshoppers

Please see the guidance below, taken from our Homework Policy, for what the children should be completing for their homework, each week.

We check the activity of each child on Spelling Shed and there are very few children accessing this, in order to support them with their phonics and spelling patterns.

Please email: grasshoppers@brownclee.shropshire.sch.uk if you can not access Spelling Shed, Numbots/TTRS. The children should have their log in details in the front of their blue reading record.

Nativity – Lines/Costumes

Our nativity, this year, is called ‘A King is Born’.

All the children in Fireflies and Grasshoppers have been given their parts.

If your child has brought home lines please could you help them to learn them, as soon as possible.

We have lots of costumes in school for children to use, but we will let you know if your child needs additional items or a costume that we haven’t already got.

Spelling Shed – Year 2

Please encourage your child to use Spelling Shed to learn the new spelling patterns taught in Year 2.

Log in details can be found in the front of their blue reading record.

I have set assignments for each new spelling pattern, covered in class.

Once they have logged on, they need to click on ‘View’ in the ‘Assignments’ box. (See below)

I will check the activity of each child, every week.

5 – 10 minutes each day, if possible.

Help Your Child Read Parent Workshop – Wednesday 5th October

We are holding a workshop for parents of early readers (Reception and Year 1) in school on Wednesday 5th October at 1.30pm.

In the workshop we will be providing the background to the teaching of phonics, as well as providing helpful information on how you can support your child when reading at home.  There will also be the opportunity to practice what you learn by having a short reading session with your child (if you wish!).
