Renewable Energy Workshop Year 5 and 6

Years 5 and 6 took part in a renewable energy workshop this morning and we had great fun. We learned about renewable energy and got to make a small version of an electric car. We then raced our cars on a mini car road map to see which groups car travelled the furthest on their charge.

Fire Safety presentation

This morning the Year 3s and Year 4s had a visitor from the Shropshire Fire & Rescue Service. They found out about the role of the fire service and what happens when you call 999. They also talked about what to do if they spot a fire, how to check a smoke alarm, the important of thinking about escape routes and “Stop, drop and roll”. They have been given the tasks of checking smoke alarms at home and talking to parents about escape plans. Thank you Shropshire Fire & Rescue Service!

KS2 Forest School Sessions!

We are very excited to share, that beginning this Wednesday (21st January), KS2 children will be taking part in regular Forest School sessions. Each session will last for the whole morning with each class taking turns to attend. This will be organised on a three week rota – Week 1: Scorpions, Week 2: Dragonflies, Week 3: Bees.

Children will need to come into school in old clothes suitable for Forest School. They will also need to bring additional clothing listed below:

Waterproof leggings

Waterproof coat

Hat, gloves, scarf

Spare socks

Boots or wellies

They will need to bring their uniform with them which they can get changed into for the afternoon.

Dates of Forest School sessions are:

Scorpions: 21st January, 11th February, 11th March

Dragonflies: 28th January, 25th February, 18th March

Bees: 4th February, 4th March, 25th March

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email your child’s class teacher.

Pentecost Art

The children in Bees have been learning about Pentecost. We read the story from the bible and then created a picture story board and wrote about Pentecost, retelling the story in our own words. We then looked at some pieces of art that showed Jesus returning to earth as the Holy Spirit after his ascension to heaven. From this, we produced our own piece of art using oil pastels.

Well done Bees, your pictures are beautiful. They are going on display at St John The Baptist Church Ditton Priors if your family would like a closer look.

Bees Sewing

Bees have finally finished their sewing! Mrs Cains, Miss Burton, Mr Smith and Mrs Davies are very proud of their achievements. They have learnt lots of new skills including sewing buttons, fasteners and lots of new sewing techniques and stitches. All the children have been amazing at sewing, showing excellent concentration and perseverance and what they have produced is all their own hard work. They designed their covers based on our class read, The Iliad and the Odyssey. Their designs were inspired by their understanding of the events of the story. Well done Bees. Your covers look great!

Sewing in Bees!

Today we have continued to learn how to sew. Last week we looked at how to thread a needle and how to sew a basic running stitch and today we have learned how to sew an enhanced running stitch and how to complete a cross stitch. We are having to concentrate really hard as some of us have never sewed before and are learning a new skill. We are enjoying our Friday afternoon sewing activity. We are working towards creating an embroidered story panel based on our class novel The Iliad and the Odyssey. However, we have a long way to go and lots more stitches to learn!

Buddy Reading with Dragonflies

We enjoyed our Buddy Reading session with Dragonflies this week!

KS2 Swimming – Sept ’24

Please see below a letter regarding swimming in KS2 for this term.

Paper copies of the letter will be sent home with children on Monday.

Swimming Lessons – Sept 24

Arthog – 2024/25

Looking ahead for our biennial Arthog visit, which is due to take place in the academic year 2024/25, we have found there is very limited availability at our preferred dates – with the only suitable available date being November 2024. There has also been a significant increase in the cost of this per pupil compared to previous years – which is £373 per pupils (before adding transport costs). We have been exploring further options – but have found that these are all coming up as just as much – or, in some cases, significantly more. We are going to look into how we can, as a school, help minimising the cost of this cost for yourselves.

Before we make our booking official, we would like to gauge the interest level of parents of current Year 4 and Year 5 parents. If you are a parent of a Year 4 or 5, we’d very much appreciate if you could fill in the following Microsoft Form: https://forms.office.com/e/aLrS7aXjvX

Tag Rugby – Swancote

Just to clarify that the Tag Rugby competition (at Swancote) is on Tuesday 5th March, which is the day after the second after-school practice – as described in the letter itself (and not as describe on the return slip). The other two dates (today and Monday 4th March) are practices.

Apologies for any confusion.

World Book Day (7th March) and Comic Relief (15th March)

We have two upcoming events that we are planning on celebrating in school.

World Book Day (Thursday 7th March)

For World Book Day, children are encouraged to come to school dress as character from their favourite (or any) book/story – and also bring along the book (if the have it); however, we appreciate that not all children will enjoy “dressing up”. If so, they can come in their own clothes. As this is not a charitable fundraising event, no donation are being requested.

On the day, the children’s classes will be mixed to form 5 new classes (with children from reception to Y6 in each class). The classes will then rotate around a variety of different book-themed activities throughout the day.

In the afternoon, we’d like to invite any parents and carers (and others) to come into school – in a similar way as last year – to share some reading books or stories with your child or any others . This will be from 2:15pm. At around 2:45pm, we will be having our usual celebration assembly – which anyone is also welcome to stay for.

Comic Relief – “Red Nose Day” (Friday 15th March)

We are also having a fundraising day for Comic Relief. Children can come into school in their own clothes (with something red). We are requesting donations for this event as it will be raising money for Comic Relief; however, the amount is entirely up to you.

As part of the day, children can also bring in their own joke – written on piece of paper with their name on. The joke doesn’t have to be an original one. Teachers will be picking their top 20 jokes – which will be shared in assembly and the top joke (by volume of laughter it generates) winning a prize! Unfortunately, due to timings, this will be an assembly with just children.

Mud Run – Friars Playing Fields

A reminder for the Y4-6 pupils attending the mud run on Wednesday that it would be avisable to bring a towel and additional dry clothes (either to take with them or parents to bring at pick-up) to put on over their wet/muddy clothes – or to change into. Miss Rock (who has organised the event from Bridgnorth Endowed School) has said that she will be bringing bin bags for children to sit on during their journey home, but you may wish to also bring your own.

The original letter stated children would need to wear their Brown Clee P.E. kits for this even; however, you may prefer them to wear something that you do not mind getting particularly muddy. They can get changed into these before leaving school on the day.

This year, parents are to pick children up from Friars Playing Fields (as opposed to Bridgnorth Endowed Leisure Centre – as in previous years). The event is due to finish at 15:30.

****Cheerleaders needed*****

****Cheerleaders needed*****

There are still three places left for cheerleading club this term – these places need to be filled for the club to continue after this week!

It is a great club where the children get to have a go at routines, jumps, gymnastics skills and more. There will be a showcase on the last session of term where parents can see what the children have learnt.

If your child wants to have a go please send clearly marked payment of £20 (for the 4 weeks) into the office asap.
