Brown Clee Buddies

We had another visit to Ditton Priors Care Home yesterday when Megan, Kieran and Mollie enjoyed having a chat, reading stories and playing games with some of the residents. Kieran’s Bee Game was a particular favourite!

Parent Governor Election Outcome

Following our recent Parent Governor election we are delighted to announce that Mrs Julie Pinches has been renominated for another 4 years, and we would like to welcome Mrs Helena Simmonds as a new Parent Governor.

The Governing Body play an important role behind the scenes, working with the school staff to constantly seek to improve educational standards so that children and young people have the chance to realise their full potential. We are really appreciative of the support, time and commitment that all members of the Governing Body provide to the school, as they operate purely voluntarily.

Karibuni Children – Project

In assembly today we reminded ourselves of our school charity – Karibuni Children.

We have been supporting Karibuni Children for 3 years now, following a visit by Joy Murphy, one of the founding trustees.  We were delighted to welcome Joy back to school in the summer term, when she shared the news of her Spring visit, when she took our pant donations – all 1300 pairs of them!

We asked Joy what Karibuni would like our next project to be and she asked if we could collect more pants – as they are something that many children in the schools don’t have enough of.  So we have our collection baskets ready in the Reception Area…

and we will be collecting pants until the end of January when I will need to box them up and send to Joy so that she can take them out to Kenya on her Spring 2023 visit. I wonder if we can beat 1300 pairs this year!

Care Club Superviser Vacancy: Friday after school

We have recently advertised for Care Club Supervisers and are delighted to inform you that after half term, Mrs Jayne Salisbury will be joining the team to support children in Care Club, along with Mrs Steph Boxall.

However, we do still have a vacancy for Care Club Supervision on Friday afternoon sessions.  If we are unable to fill this vacancy it may well mean that we are unable to offer Care Club provision on Friday afternoons after half term.

If you are interested in the position, please contact the School Office for further information.

Service to remember Mary Dale

We would like to inform our parents who may have been past pupils at Brown Clee Primary School, that there is a service in Tuesday 18th October at 11.30am at Ditton Priors Church to celebrate the memory of Mary Dale, who sadly passed away recently.

Mary was a well-respected and well-loved infant teacher in the days when the school as known as Ditton Priors Primary School.

Brown Clee Buddies return to Ditton Priors Care Home

We are absolutely delighted for our Brown Clee Buddies to be invited back to Ditton Priors Care Home! These weekly visits were such a highlight of our week, prior to Covid19, and both residents and children hugely benefited from the social interactions.

So when we received the call asking if we would like to resume our visits we jumped at the chance…and last week our first Brown Clee Buddies headed across to the Care Home to read stories, play games and have a chat!

Well Done Assembly

We would like to invite parents, families and governors to join the children in the first Well Done Assembly of this academic year tomorrow morning.  The assembly starts at 8.55am and will last about 20 minutes, and it is an opportunity to find out about what the children have been learning in classes this week.

School Information

We would just like to remind parents of the importance of subscribing to the School/Class News pages on the school website.  If you do this, you will automatically receive an email daily with any class news or updates, along with a weekly newsletter on Friday afternoons.  To subscribe click the following link to take you to the website page, add your email address and select the class that your child/ren are in – it is really easy.

https://browncleeschool.org.uk/home/parents-area/office/newsletter/news-subscription/

Class Teachers will post any changes to PE timetables (which do happen at times due to staff being out for courses etc) along with relevant information on trips, visits and class news.  We use this as having one central point for information keeps things simpler for parents, and is also more time efficient for class teachers.

Also, if you have any specific queries regarding your child’s class please do email directly to the teacher using the class emails.

New Academic Year: Useful Information

Good Morning,
I hope you are having an enjoyable and restful summer break, and with one week to go before we return to school (children on Tuesday 6th September) I thought it would be helpful to share some information and reminders.
School Meals: Don’t forget to book your child’s school meal on Parent Pay before term starts.  The menu is the same as last term and the new cost is £2.50 per meal. ParentPay – Leading Cashless Payment System for Schools
Start of School Day: Please note that the school day now starts at 8:45am for all children.  Doors will open at 8:40am, and all school transport will have amended their timings to ensure children are at school for the start of day.
Building Work: Building will be starting soon for the new classroom, and as a result there will be no parent/visitor parking on the school site due to this area being needed for the builders compound.  Please park considerately for local residents and do not use the cul-de-sac behind the Station Rd row. There is the village hall car park, a short walk away.
Uniform: Have you remembered that children are now to come to school in training shoes each day?  This is so that they can participate in our daily class fitness activities.
P.E: Children come to school in their P.E uniform on P.E days (please go to your class information page on the school website for this information). Also, has your child got their new P.E cold weather top – available from Bristows of Bridgnorth? Brown Clee CE Primary School (schooluniformfactory.co.uk)
We are very much looking forward to welcoming everyone back to school on Tuesday 6th September at 8:45am particularly our new Reception children in the Fireflies, who will be staying for half days initially.
Enjoy the remaining week of the holidays and if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact us.
Kind regards
Sue Relph
Headteacher
P.S. Have you subscribed to your child’s class news on the website yet?  If your child has moved class you will need to select the new class.  This will mean you get automatic notifications of any news or information posted by school and/or your class teacher.  browncleeschool.org.uk/home/parents-area/office/newsletter/

Spelling Shed

Your child will have their own personal log-in information to access Spelling Shed.

Spelling Shed is a fantastic resource that we use to allow children to practice their spellings.  It is available as an APP as well as a website: www.spellingshed.com

Learning to spell is the partner of learning to read, each enhancing and dependent on the other.  Therefore along with regular practice and revisiting of spellings it is also vital that children read daily – as regular reading allows children to ‘see’ words in context, and assists in embedding spellings into long term memory.

Summer Holiday!

We would like to wish all our children and families a restful, relaxing and happy summer break and look forwards to welcoming children back on Tuesday 6th September.

We also wish our Year 6 pupils all the very best in the future as they make their next steps in education – they have been a fantastic group of young people and we know that they have a bright future ahead of them!

We would like to thank parents for their support throughout the past academic year, and also their kind words and generosity.  We really value the partnership between school and home and look forwards to working together when the new term starts in September!

Wishing everyone a wonderful summer!

Before and After School Intervention Groups

Please note that there are NO before or after school intervention groups this week.

End of year Assembly – Tuesday 2pm

We were hoping to hold our end of year assembly outside and be open to all parents – but due to the hot weather we are going to have to hold it in the hall.  Therefore we will have to limit numbers due to capacity, and so will be for Year 6 parents only.

Hot Weather update for next week

Ditton Priors is currently forecast to have top temperatures of about 38 degrees next week so we would like to remind parents of the importance of ensuring all children have sun screen protection, as well as a sun-hat and water bottle.  We are also suggesting that children wear their P.E. uniform (shorts and t-shirts) so that they are cooler.

We will be encouraging children to drink regularly throughout the day and to refill waterbottles when needed.

The Fireflies/Grasshoppers beach party is now taking place first thing on Monday morning to avoid the higher temperatures.
