William and his family enjoyed a trip to Liverpool to visit the Titanic exhibition, in the Maritime Museum.

This is a permanent exhibition and is FREE!

Just a 5 minute walk away is the ‘Museum of Liverpool’ which is also free entry and worth a visit too.

In Geography, Grasshoppers have been learning about the human and physical features of a seaside town. They have taken inspiration from one of the books we have explored this term called ‘Postcards from Crabby Spit’. The book is set in Australia and follows a family who are on holiday there.

The children designed their own seaside town, choosing the features that they wanted and planning where to place them.
They then chose a name for their town and wrote a leaflet to persuade visitors that their resort was the best place to visit, by describing some of the exciting things they would be able to see and do there.

Grasshoppers have been using leaves and other items in nature such as, flowers, sticks and crab apples to create representations of multiplication number sentences. We enjoyed working outside!

In Science, this afternoon Grasshoppers have been making the boats that they have designed. They chose the materials they wanted to use for the hull and to make the mast and sail.
The children had a range of different materials to choose from: plastic, metal, cork, cardboard, sponge, fabric, felt, foam, wood and paper.
Once made, they tested them to see if they floated, sank or tipped over. They evaluated their boats and thought about what they might change next time and if they could improve their design.

Splash Curriculum Overview Summer Term

Alongside the art work we have been doing in class, linked to our topic of Australia, we have been working on a large scale painting of Uluru.
The children have used a dot painting technique to create features of the picture.
They also used watercolours and the dot technique to create the birds around the painting.
Year 1 children added the finished touches on Monday.

Well Done certificates, this week, are awarded to Zac Robinson and Jack Dewhurst-Cousins.

Australia Curriculum Overview Spring term 2022

This week, the children have been given their lines to learn for our class nativity.

Please could you support your child to learn their lines. Those children with narrator parts do not need to learn their lines off by heart, but they do need to be very familiar with the words so that they can read them fluently and confidently.

Unfortunately, we will have to video our performance to be viewed online, as we did last year. We all feel very disappointed that we can’t do a proper performance, this year, but we are still having fun learning the songs and rehearsing our parts. Fingers crossed that next year we will be back on stage with an audience.
