We would like to invite parents, families and governors to join the children in the first Well Done Assembly of this academic year tomorrow morning.  The assembly starts at 8.55am and will last about 20 minutes, and it is an opportunity to find out about what the children have been learning in classes this week.

School Information

We would just like to remind parents of the importance of subscribing to the School/Class News pages on the school website.  If you do this, you will automatically receive an email daily with any class news or updates, along with a weekly newsletter on Friday afternoons.  To subscribe click the following link to take you to the website page, add your email address and select the class that your child/ren are in – it is really easy.

https://browncleeschool.org.uk/home/parents-area/office/newsletter/news-subscription/

Class Teachers will post any changes to PE timetables (which do happen at times due to staff being out for courses etc) along with relevant information on trips, visits and class news.  We use this as having one central point for information keeps things simpler for parents, and is also more time efficient for class teachers.

Also, if you have any specific queries regarding your child’s class please do email directly to the teacher using the class emails.

Books of condolence to The Queen open in Shropshire

Books of condolence are open across Shropshire so people can pay tribute to Queen Elizabeth II, whose death was announced to the nation yesterday evening.

These give Shropshire residents the opportunity to pay their respects to The Queen and share their thoughts, feelings and memories about her 70-year reign.

Books of condolence are open at the following locations from 9.30am today (Friday 9 September). Libraries will be open for the public to sign the books until 6pm today, and 9am-6pm during weekdays next week,  throughout the period of mourning:

  • Bridgnorth Library
  • Ludlow Library
  • Mayor’s Parlour, The Castle, Shrewsbury
  • Market Drayton Library
  • Oswestry Library
  • Shrewsbury Library
  • Theatre Severn, Shrewsbury
  • Shrewsbury Museum, Shrewsbury
  • Whitchurch Library

Find your nearest library opening times here.

Books of condolences will also be available at a number of town and parish councils and churches in Shropshire.

Church Stretton

Church Stretton Town Council will be opening a book of condolence. It will be available in the Silvester Horne Institute between 10am and 4pm. There is also a book of condolence in St Lawrence’s Church.

Albrighton

Albrighton Library has a book of condolence available for the public. The library will be open from 10am to 5pm today.

Ellesmere

A book will be open at Ellesmere Town Hall from 10.30am today. Access to the building will be 10am to 4pm Saturday and Sunday, weekdays from 9am to 3pm.

The town council is happy to open up the building by prior appointment should anyone wish to sign that is unable to do so within the normal opening hours and a book will also be open at St Mary’s Church from 8am today throughout daylight hours each day.

Cleobury Mortimer

A book of condolence in St. Mary’s Church, Cleobury Mortimer.

Much Wenlock

The book of condolence in Much Wenlock will be located in Holy Trinity Church, not the library.

Alternatively, you can sign the national online condolence book at www.royal.uk

Those who do not have access to the internet or are not able to go to a location to sign a book of condolence, can send handwritten messages or cards to be addressed to Chair of Shropshire Council, Democratic Services, Shirehall, Shrewsbury, SY2 6ND. These will be placed in the books of condolences.

We know many people will want to express their sadness by laying flowers. Floral tributes can be made at Shrewsbury Castle as well as many other local locations across the county.

The first floral tributes were laid this morning by The Lord-Lieutenant of Shropshire Anna Turner and she was joined by Chairman of the Council Vince Hunt and Leader of the Council Lezley Picton in signing the Book of Condolence there.

The Lord-Lieutenant, the Chairman, the Leader, and Shropshire Council’s chief executive Andy Begley lead the tributes to Her Majesty, which can be read in full here.

You may have seen some recent news about the Bridgnorth School Uniform Bank that has opened in Bridgnorth Library.  Local Councillors and volunteers set up the scheme to ease pressure on families with regards costs of school uniform for the Bridgnorth schools.

Here is an article in BBC News with further information: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-shropshire-62723182

We have been in touch and asked if Brown Clee C.E. Primary School could be included in the scheme, and GOOD NEWS – we can!

The clothes bank is open Monday to Saturday during library opening times, and at the moment is running through September. They ask that any donations of uniform are washed and folded, and if you are in need of any second hand uniform, then you are welcome you browse through whatever stock they may have.

There are two groupings for uniform: individual school-logo uniform, eg sweatshirts, and generic grey trousers, pinafores etc.

New Academic Year: Useful Information

Good Morning,
I hope you are having an enjoyable and restful summer break, and with one week to go before we return to school (children on Tuesday 6th September) I thought it would be helpful to share some information and reminders.
School Meals: Don’t forget to book your child’s school meal on Parent Pay before term starts.  The menu is the same as last term and the new cost is £2.50 per meal. ParentPay – Leading Cashless Payment System for Schools
Start of School Day: Please note that the school day now starts at 8:45am for all children.  Doors will open at 8:40am, and all school transport will have amended their timings to ensure children are at school for the start of day.
Building Work: Building will be starting soon for the new classroom, and as a result there will be no parent/visitor parking on the school site due to this area being needed for the builders compound.  Please park considerately for local residents and do not use the cul-de-sac behind the Station Rd row. There is the village hall car park, a short walk away.
Uniform: Have you remembered that children are now to come to school in training shoes each day?  This is so that they can participate in our daily class fitness activities.
P.E: Children come to school in their P.E uniform on P.E days (please go to your class information page on the school website for this information). Also, has your child got their new P.E cold weather top – available from Bristows of Bridgnorth? Brown Clee CE Primary School (schooluniformfactory.co.uk)
We are very much looking forward to welcoming everyone back to school on Tuesday 6th September at 8:45am particularly our new Reception children in the Fireflies, who will be staying for half days initially.
Enjoy the remaining week of the holidays and if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact us.
Kind regards
Sue Relph
Headteacher
P.S. Have you subscribed to your child’s class news on the website yet?  If your child has moved class you will need to select the new class.  This will mean you get automatic notifications of any news or information posted by school and/or your class teacher.  browncleeschool.org.uk/home/parents-area/office/newsletter/
