Class 1’s Sharing Post.

Good afternoon everyone!

Thank you once again to everyone for sharing what you have been doing. There has been lots of maths and English work. I have really enjoyed reading your favourite parts of Sharing a Shell. We have such lovely children in Class 1, who said that their favourite part was when they were all friends sharing a shell together. This made them feel happy.

I have also had a couple of video’s to share. One of Brooke dressing up and another of Jake doing some brilliant sounding and blending. I hope you enjoy them.

Handwriting in Class 1.

I have recently had a couple of queries regarding handwriting. I thought it may be useful to share the information with all Class 1 parents so everyone is aware of the school’s handwriting policy. Reception are taught to write with lead outs only. Year 1’s progress to using lead ins and lead outs. Here are a couple of links which explain it in more detail. Year 1link- https://www.teachhandwriting.co.uk/continuous-cursive-beginners-choice-3.html Reception link- https://www.teachhandwriting.co.uk/cursive-letters-beginners-choice-3.html I hope this helps. If you need any further information please do not hesitate to ask. Alternatively you can refer to the handwriting policy which is on the school website. Many thanks N.fox

Good Morning Class 1!

Here we are at the end of another week of home learning. Well done everyone, you have all been working so hard, in what are certainly different circumstances. Thank you everyone for all your support!

I had a lovely surprise yesterday… one of the members of class 1 sent me a video of them reading, to show me how well they were doing. It was great to watch them read and hear their voice. It got me thinking… perhaps others might like to send me a short clip of what they have been up to?

Thank you for sharing what you have been doing. I look forward to seeing what you have been up to and it is lovely to be able to share with your friends!

 Here are today’s activities:

Forest school: Mrs Rollings has suggested today’s activity.I know she looks at the website to see what you have all been up to. I am sure she would love to see some photos of you doing today’s activity.

Today’s activity is a sensory game:

Can you find an area with several different trees? Ask someone to blindfold you and carefully guide you to stand in front of a tree. Feel the tree carefully up and down. Is it rough or smooth. hard or soft, warm or cold, wet or dry?

Can you feel any patterns, cracks or holes? Any branches or twigs? Move carefully away from the tree and remove the blindfold. Can you guess which tree you have just hugged?

Year 1 spellings: Get your parents to test you on your weekly spellings. Let me know how you get on. If you need to move onto the next spelling list please let me know.

Class 1’s running challenge.

This term our running challenge is to see how many times we can(collectively) run the length of the Praia do Cassino Beach in Brazil. This is the worlds longest beach at 150 miles in length.

There are 21 children in class 1 so this is equivalent to running 7.1 miles during the term. As we did so well running to Shrewsbury and back (over 260 miles.) I am hoping that we can run the length of the beach at least twice (300 miles) especially as the weather is so good at the moment.

Please make a record of how many miles you have run each week and let me know. I can then keep a running total of how many miles we have run.

Come on Class 1 we can do it!

Class 1’s sharing post

There has been lots of fantastic work going on in Class 1 today (and in the Easter holiday.) It has been great to hear from you all. Well done!

Here are some photos of what everyone has been up to:

Welcome Back! Summer Term 2020.

Good morning Class 1! I hope you all had a lovely Easter break. I have missed our daily communications and I am really looking forward to hearing from you all.

This week we will be starting our new topic ‘On the Beach.’ We have lots of interesting things to learn about. All the information about what we will be learning this term can be found on the class 1 information page.

This term, reception children will be moving onto Phase 5 sounds, in phonics. This will mean that the children will be learning sounds they have not been taught previously.

In English, our work for the next few weeks will be based around the book ‘Sharing a Shell’ by Julia Donaldson. Do not worry if you don’t have a copy of the book as there are lots of videos online. If you have audible, there is an audio version of the book available to download.

In maths, we have decided to move forward with new concepts that have not previously been taught. We will be using the White Rose home learning activities as this is the scheme we follow in school. It will involve watching a video and then completing an activity afterwards.

If you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact me:

Mrs Rollings has suggested a scavenger hunt. She has asked you to find:

1) A feather

2) A skeleton of a leaf from last year

3) A leaf emerging from a bud.

4) Something unusual or pretty (must be natural.)

5) Can you see a mini beast that has been in hibernation or has hatched out in Spring (for example: a bumblebee, a ladybird or a butterfly.)

Have fun and please share your photos. I am sure Mrs Rollings would like to see what you have found.

Brilliant news……… Class 1 have made it back to Ditton Priors!

Well done everyone. That means we went to Shrewsbury (Charles Darwin’s birthplace) and back a total of 10 times!

We will be doing another running challenge next term. More details to come after the Easter break.

Class 1 Daily Learning Thursday 2nd April

Good morning Class 1!

I have had lots of emails to say how much some of you are missing school and your friends. I hope these photos help, I know it is not the same as actually seeing your friends in person but you can see what lovely things they have been doing!

I also know a few of the children are struggling to understand why they still can’t go to school. This video clip below explains in very simple child friendly terms the need for social distancing.

I hope his helps. There is also a link at the end of the video to get more advice on how to talk to children about Covid-19.

Well done for  all the super work from yesterday!

Class 1’s Work in Action

It looks like it has been another action packed day for the children in Class 1.

Here is what some of you have been up to…….

Can Class 1 Get Back From Shrewsbury?

We have only 2 more days until the end of term. We still have 11 more miles to get back to Ditton Priors from Shrewsbury. If we manage to do it, we will have (collectively) been to Charles Darwin’s birthplace and back 10 times. Come on Class 1 we can do it!

Next term our topic is ‘On The Beach.’ I would be grateful for any ideas for our next running challenge!
