Dragonflies success on Spelling Shed

I had a knock on the door from Zak and Teddy from Dragonflies to share the good news that they had found out that their class are 98th in the whole world league with a fabulous score of 136,454, 198 points!

They have now set themselves a challenge of getting to 89th!  Let’s see how they go!

Arthog Update

The Year 5 and 6 children are continuing to have a great time at Arthog – they are very busy with their activities, including gorge walking, rock climbing and their night walk.

They are all also eating and sleeping well – so very happy children!

Arthog

We have had a message from the Arthog team and everyone is having a great time!

The groups have been doing canoeing, rock climbing, surfing and gorge walking and they did a night walk last night. Tonight they have done the nightline (which you can see in the photo).

There have been no homesickness episodes and the night porter has actually commented on how it’s the best nights sleep he’s had at Arthog! There have been lots of positive comments about manners too, with the kitchen staff saying that it’s the first group where every child has said please and thank you!

We are very proud of them all and am sure they will continue to have a great time! I have been asked to share that it is really full on and there aren’t many spare moments, so parents please do not worry if you don’t hear anything.

FOBCS Fundraising Meeting – Monday 3rd July 6pm

We are thrilled to announce that thanks to Carla and Louise, FOBCS are alive and kicking again, and the refreshments at Sports Day raised £120 for the school.

We are holding an informal, relaxed meeting in school on Monday 3rd July at 6pm to discuss ideas for future fundraising and we would like to encourage parents/grandparents to come and join us – as an active FOBCS does need everyone’s involvement.

So please come along and let’s see what we can do to work together to bring FOBCS to life!

Sports Day 2023

We all had a fantastic day at our Sports Day, and the children took part with grit, determination and superb team-spirit! A big thank you to Louise Preece and Carla Bow for organising all the refreshments  – the cakes were delicious!

We thought you might like to see some of the photo

Have you lost a pair of glasses?

We have found a pair of glasses on the school field today after sports day. They are in the school office, please call by if you think they could be yours.

Sports Morning – Tomorrow

We have been closely following the weather forecast and it seems to be clearing, so at this point in time we are planning to go ahead tomorrow morning.  Please do keep an eye on the website in the morning, just in case the weather forecast changes.

The school gates will open at 9.45am and races will start at 10am promptly.

FOBCS are kindly providing some teas, coffees and cakes (they might well need some help and support), and there will also be an ice cream on site (thank you Laura’s Ice-Creams).

Once the races are complete, children will be welcome to join their families for a picnic lunch and then will return to class at 1pm.  You are welcome to bring picnic blankets or chairs, but please note that we will be putting chairs out for parents, grandparents and families to sit on for the races.

Let’s keep our fingers crossed with the weather!

Sports Morning – Weather Watch

Just so you are aware, we are monitoring the weather forecasts (which are very variable dependent on which website you look at) with regards Sports morning on Wednesday.

At the moment the Met Office has no rain forecast so we will continue to monitor, but as the weather is very localised and changeable at the moment, please keep a watch on the website.  If we do have to rearrange we will be going for Thursday morning this week (29th June) – again weather dependent.

I wish we had a crystal ball!

Sports Morning – 10am Wednesday 28th June

We are looking forward to our annual Sports Morning next Wednesday, 28th June.  The races will start at 10am with gates opening from 9.45am when families and friends are more than welcome to come and watch.  We are expecting races to be complete by about midday when you are then welcome to bring a picnic lunch for after the races, and your child/children can join you for lunch, before returning to lessons at 1pm.

FOBCS will be hosting a refreshments stall where you can buy teas, coffee, squash and cakes, and there will also be an ice cream van.

If you wish your child to have a school packed lunch on Sports Day, please remember to order at least 3 days before using Parent Pay.

Ditton Priors Twinning Association

Some of you may be aware that Ditton Priors is twinned with the small village of Simple in Northern France. They would love more families to get involved with this and have sent a poster to share which can be found below. If you are interested please e-mail Kat or Stuart (details on poster) for more information.

A reminder to book meals in ParentPay

If your child requires a school meal, please could you log onto ParentPay and book these as there have been several children this week who have not had their meals booked meaning that staff have had to ask them their menu choice in the morning ensuring that they had a meal they enjoyed. You can book meals 48 hours in advance and it is possible to book up until the end of term. If you do forget to book a meal, please call the school office as we have the facility to book these on the day.

If you need an activation letter for ParentPay please contact the school office who can arrange for this to be e-mailed to you.

Dance Club Performance

Every Monday after school, we hold a dance club led by Miss Thornton from Crossbar Coaching.  The children are from Year 2 to Year 6, and they have learnt about a range of different types of dance from tap to Irish dancing.  Recently they have been practicing a contemporary dance, and this morning they performed it in front of the school.  They all really enjoy taking part, and they received some fabulous feedback from their peers.

There are spaces for after half term, and so if your child would like to join and are in Year 2 or above, then please email careclub@brownclee.shropshire.sch.uk to book your child’s place with Mrs Steph Boxall, our Extended Schools Coordinator.

Visit from the Police

We have had an exciting assembly this morning when we had a visit from two Police Officers – Police Constable Davies and Police Community Support Officer Hyde.  They talked about their different roles and then the children had the opportunity to ask some questions.  They wanted to know about Police dogs and the different breeds, the different aspects of their roles (best bits and not so good bits!),  what was the uniform like and was it comfortable and how many different police vehicles they have.

The Reception children then had the opportunity to learn about the police car and sit in it – they even turned the blue lights and siren on – it was very loud! @Bridgnorthcops
