Year 1 Spelling Shed League

We have set up all Year 1 children on a Spelling Shed League.  Everytime they play the game set up called YEAR 1 AND YEAR 2 KS1 FULL LIST they will win points.  All children start as Eggs, and as they earn more points they progress up through Larva, Drone, Worker Bee, Soldier Bee and eventually achieve Royal Bee!  Each time they move up a level they will earn a house point and receive a certificate to celebrate the achievement!

Please help encourage your child to access Spelling Shed at home – just 5 minutes a day will make a big difference!

Weather Watch: Wed 26th February

There is the potential for snow overnight, so we advise listening to Radio Shropshire in the morning just in case there is a decision to delay the start of the school day or close the school.  This is a decision that is never taken lightly, but we do have to consider the safety of everyone trying to get to school, particularly considering the geographical location of Ditton Priors and the local area.

Class 4’s Longhouses

In D.T., Class 4 have been making longhouses following a typical Viking design. We started by first making inner support structures – which we then joined together and added external support structures. Most groups are now at the stage where they will be adding wall panels and eventually a thatched roof.

Thunk of the Week!

We have introduced ‘Thunks’ to the school to help develop deeper thinking and analysis skills.  Click here to find out more.

To promote ‘THUNKs’ we have a ‘Thunk of the Week’ which is shared on a giantblackboard, which will sit outside Reception.  Parents and children are welcome to contribute with their own thoughts.  These are the Thunk rules:-

  1. There are no wrong or right answers.
  2. You have to provide an explanation.
  3. We respond respectfully.

We will share our thoughts at the end of each week and there will be a new one each Monday. Happy Thunking!

World Book Day

For World Book Day this year we are focusing on the story ‘The Huge Bag of Worries’ as a whole school.

Reading and sharing stories and books is an important part of life at Brown Clee School. With this in mind we have decided not to dress up this year.

During the day we have an author coming to talk to Key Stage One, we will be taking part in activities inspired by our chosen book and we will be sharing the fruit and vegetable characters the children have made at home.

We have chosen:

The Huge Bag of Worries By Virginia Ironside

We will share the story together as a school and throughout the day each class will take part in activities inspired by the story.

We are also inviting the children to bring in a fruit or vegetable fictional character that they have made.

It could be a parsnip Harry Potter, an apple Mrs Twit or a banana Podkin One Ear!

Ex Pupils Visit – Sporting Achievement

We had a visit from Jess and Niamh, who are both in Year 8 at Bridgnorth Endowed School, who came to talk to Class 3 and 4 about sporting opportunities available at Bridgnorth Endowed School (curriculum and extra-curricular) but also about their achievements in local sporting clubs.

Niamh is a Shropshire County netball player, amongst other sporting achievements, and is looking forwards to a netball team trip to Italy in the near future, and Jess was scouted for Bridgnorth Girls’ Football team.  We are very proud of their achievements and hopefully they will have inspired some of our pupils to have a go at some different sports out of school, and show them what they can achieve if they put their minds and best efforts to play.  Thanks you Jess and Niamh for coming back and sharing your successes with us!
