The Easter Story

Children in Class 1 have been learning about the Easter story and why Christians celebrate Easter. The children started by learning about Palm Sunday. They retold the story through drama and used what they had learnt to write about the important events that took place on Palm Sunday. As the children continued to learn about the Easter story, we discussed the significance of the cross as a religious symbol. They enjoyed decorating a wooden cross (which was made for us by Mrs Welch) with flowers made from tissue paper and painted egg cartons. We even took the cross with us to Forest School. At Forest school, the children made Easter gardens and enjoyed an Easter egg hunt with a mathematical twist. Their efforts were rewarded with a treat from the Easter Bunny which went down a treat!
Palm Sunday
Wishing you all a happy Easter from Class 1.

Wheeled Vehicles

The children in Class 1 have thoroughly enjoyed designing, making and evaluating their wheeled vehicles. They have produced some fantastic pieces. We have had a range of multi-coloured cars, tractors, lorries and even a digger!

Special Visitor in Class 1.

Class 1 have been reading the books ‘Mr Gumpy’s Motor Car’ and Mr Gumpy’s outing.’ They were really excited to have a visit from Mr Gumpy today. They had already prepared their questions for Mr Gumpy and really enjoyed the opportunity to ask him them. They were able to find out lots of information about him. They found out where he lived, if he had any pets and how fast his car could go. There were also lots of requests to go for a ride in his motor car and his boat! The children will be using what they have found out to write what they have learnt about Mr Gumpy.

Class 1 Fitness Challenge

The first ever train was developed by George Stephenson and ran the length of the Stockton to Darlington railway which is 25 miles. Class 1’s challenge is to see how many times we can (collectively) complete the length of the railway.

Please see the document below for more details.

Have fun and lets get moving!

Remote learning

Firstly, I hope everyone had a good Christmas and send everyone my best wishes for the New Year!

I had hoped to see all the children today but unfortunately that is not going to be possible. Due to the current lockdown, all learning will be taking place remotely, at least until February half-term.

I am aware that for many parents this is their first experience of remote learning during lockdown. During lockdown, it is a Government expectation that children will engage with online learning and that children are set work to support their learning.

I will be using the Tapestry platform to set work on a daily basis. Any completed work will need to be submitted using Tapestry by 3:30pm to get feedback from either myself or Mrs Rollings.

If there are any issues/barriers to assessing or completing remote work, please contact me as soon as possible. Please be assured we will try to help you in any way we can.

I have sent further information via Tapestry and would be extremely grateful if you could check your Tapestry notifications and acknowledge receipt by ticking ‘like’ on the page.

If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact me: class1@brownclee.shropshire.sch.uk.

Many thanks,

N.Fox

Forest School Fun

Class 1 had great fun at Forest School. We enjoyed hot chocolate with cream and marshmallows and biscuits!

Warm PE Kit Tomorrow

Please could Class 1 children come to school in their outdoor PE kit tomorrow. Many thanks, N.Fox

Reading Record Books

Please could you ensure that your child brings their blue reading record book into school with them everyday.

I would also be grateful if parents could sign their child’s reading record to show that they have read with their child. This will help us to ensure that their reading books get changed.

Many thanks,

N.Fox

Christmas Messages

As we are unable to send each other Christmas cards this year, the children have enjoyed writing Christmas messages for their friends.

Parent Feedback Sessions

Appointment slips have been sent home with your child this evening. Please check their school bags for your appointment information. Many thanks N.Fox

PE Kit on a Friday.

Please send your child into school, in their warm, outdoor PE kit, on a Friday (no shorts please.) A warm coat would also be advisable. Many thanks N.Fox

Spelling Shed- New Lists

I am really pleased to see how many of you have already been on the app! I have now released a few more lists for you to have a go at. Well done and keep up the great work! Mrs Fox

Spelling Shed

Spelling Shed is an app which is developed to support children’s spelling and phonetical awareness. It is used throughout the school and has made a positive impact on children’s spelling.

I have put new assignments on Spelling Shed for reception children. These assignments have been set at their current level of phonetic knowledge. The children are familiar with the app as we have used it in school.

Class 1 have been given their Spelling Shed login codes. If they had their blue Reading Record, the code was stuck in the back of their book. If they did not have their book in school, their code was stuck onto a blue piece of card and given to the children.

Many thanks

The Dark,Dark Street

Class 1 have really enjoyed making their houses for the dark, dark street in the “FunnyBones” story. They had to cover their boxes with paper, paint their boxes and make a roof, windows and doors for their houses. They all worked extremely hard and produced some fantastic pieces of work!

Class 1’s P.E. Challenge Update.

All of Class 1 have been doing extremely well with their P.E. challenge. They are all extremely motivated to run as many lengths of the playground, as they can, in 3 minutes. Max has managed to run a fantastic total of 16 lengths, closely followed by Grace with 14 lengths.

Fabulous FunnyBones Freeze Frames.

Class 1 really enjoyed re-creating scenes from the “FunnyBones” story, using freeze frames.

Home-link Week Commencing 5th October

Thank you to everyone who has sent in what their child has been doing at home. The children really enjoy talking about what they have been doing and sharing their pictures (and videos) with the rest of the class.

Please find below information about what we have been doing in Class 1 this week.

Sharing Home-link

Esmae enjoyed sharing all the great work she has been doing at home. She has been practising her letter formation and doing lots of counting. Well done Esmae! If you have been doing any work at home, please email class1@brownclee.Shropshire.sch,uk. We would love to see what you have been up to!

Class 1 information: Home-link, Reading and Writing

Home-link

Please find attached details of what we have been learning in Class 1 during our first 2 weeks in school. I have also included some suggestions of things you could do at home, to reinforce what we have been learning in school

I would usually send a book home for the children to bring into school and share their work. Unfortunately, this is not possible at the moment. If you and your child would like to share, what they have been doing at home, please email: class1@brownclee.shropshire.sch.uk. We will then share their work in school.

Weeks 1&2

 Reading:

I have been really impressed with the amount of children that have been reading their phonics book at home. I cannot stress the importance of reading with your child at home. Please  listen to your child read at home as much as possible. It really does make a huge difference to your child’s progress in reading.

The video clip below will help you to understand how we teach the ‘pure’ pronunciation of sounds in phonics sessions. Learning the pure sounds are key, to help with the process of blending sounds to read words.

Handwriting:

Below is a link to help support handwriting at home. This link shows the correct formation of letters that we have been learning in school.

If you have any further queries please do not hesitate to contact me on the Class 1 email address.

Many thanks

Brown Clee Sports Day.

The end of the Summer term is not the same without a sports day…. so we held a (very different) sports day for the children currently in school. All the children had a great time! Here are some photos of the Foxes and Rabbits enjoying their races.

Dress Up Like a Pirate- Thursday 16th July

The children are thoroughly enjoying their pirate themed week. To enhance their experience, on Thursday, the children can come into school dressed as a pirate. Please do not feel it necessary to buy a new costume. There are lots of great ideas on the internet which can be made using things from home. If children at home would like to join in and dress up like a pirate, that would be great. We would love to see your photos! Yo ho ho, Mrs Fox

Pirates Ahoy!

Shiver me timbers…. Foxes and Rabbits have really enjoyed the start to our pirate themed week.

Yo ho ho!
