Our RE curriculum aims to assist our school vision and support our values by challenging how pupils view themselves, those around them and the world they live in. It aims to educate students about a range of worldviews to foster an attitude of respect for the beliefs of all, and thankfulness and compassion for others – whether their views and beliefs are the similar to or different from our own. It encourages pupils to think deeply, persevere when faced with difficult questions (and not worry about ‘getting the wrong answer’) and to have the courage to stand up for what they believe.
Our curriculum is taught in accordance with the Shropshire Agreed Syllabus 2026 and the RE Statement of Entitlement for Church of England Schools 2026. We use a resource called ‘Understanding Christianity’ for our Christianity unit.

Each term every class studies one Christianity unit and one unit on another worldview or a thematic topic. Our curriculum runs on a two-year cycle. In year A classes study Christianity, Islam, and Hinduism (KS2 only). In year B classes study Christianity, Judaism, and Humanism (KS2 only). During their studies children consider diversity within any given worldview and are encouraged to consider whether there is anything they can learn from that worldview. Thematic units cover issues such as caring for others, reducing racism, looking after our world and considering how to make it a better place, and where we belong.
Within RE lessons children are encouraged to explore their own ideas in order to answer questions in which there is not a set ‘right answer’. Children think about methods of obtaining knowledge or ‘Ways of Knowing’, which can be used within RE and across the wider curriculum. These include looking at stories / examining texts, interpreting art / images, conducting interviews/surveys, constructing arguments and reflecting on your own position.
The school has a partnership with the Hereford Diocese Board of Education, which provides training to staff to ensure high standards of RE teaching across the school.
Parents have the right to withdraw their child from Religious Education. Please contact the head teacher if this is something you wish to do.
