Sports Morning – Weather Watch

Just so you are aware, we are monitoring the weather forecasts (which are very variable dependent on which website you look at) with regards Sports morning on Wednesday.

At the moment the Met Office has no rain forecast so we will continue to monitor, but as the weather is very localised and changeable at the moment, please keep a watch on the website.  If we do have to rearrange we will be going for Thursday morning this week (29th June) – again weather dependent.

I wish we had a crystal ball!

Sports Morning – 10am Wednesday 28th June

We are looking forward to our annual Sports Morning next Wednesday, 28th June.  The races will start at 10am with gates opening from 9.45am when families and friends are more than welcome to come and watch.  We are expecting races to be complete by about midday when you are then welcome to bring a picnic lunch for after the races, and your child/children can join you for lunch, before returning to lessons at 1pm.

FOBCS will be hosting a refreshments stall where you can buy teas, coffee, squash and cakes, and there will also be an ice cream van.

If you wish your child to have a school packed lunch on Sports Day, please remember to order at least 3 days before using Parent Pay.

Does your child love music?  Have they expressed an interest in learning an instrument?

Our Music Teacher, Mrs Karen Kirkland, is looking ahead to the Autumn Term and is keen to encourage children to learn to play a musical instrument.  She can teach any instrument – be it keyboard, drums, trumpet, clarinet!

These are the highly transferable skills that set people up for future success and unlock
learning in the classroom.

Now that we have been successful in gaining a place on the Skills Builder Accelerator Programme, we will develop be able to work with the partnership to develop sustainable strategies for teaching these essential skills to help prepare all our children to make progress and give them the language to talk about their skillset confidently,
too.

Reminder: School Photographs Tomorrow

We hope you have enjoyed the sunny half term holiday and thought it would be helpful to remind families that tomorrow all the children are having their class photographs taken by Chris and Jo Maddox.

We have requested that ALL children wear the Active P.E. Uniform please, so that everyone is wearing the one type of uniform – and this will be the only one that ALL children have due to the transition.

Dance Club Performance

Every Monday after school, we hold a dance club led by Miss Thornton from Crossbar Coaching.  The children are from Year 2 to Year 6, and they have learnt about a range of different types of dance from tap to Irish dancing.  Recently they have been practicing a contemporary dance, and this morning they performed it in front of the school.  They all really enjoy taking part, and they received some fabulous feedback from their peers.

There are spaces for after half term, and so if your child would like to join and are in Year 2 or above, then please email careclub@brownclee.shropshire.sch.uk to book your child’s place with Mrs Steph Boxall, our Extended Schools Coordinator.

Visit from the Police

We have had an exciting assembly this morning when we had a visit from two Police Officers – Police Constable Davies and Police Community Support Officer Hyde.  They talked about their different roles and then the children had the opportunity to ask some questions.  They wanted to know about Police dogs and the different breeds, the different aspects of their roles (best bits and not so good bits!),  what was the uniform like and was it comfortable and how many different police vehicles they have.

The Reception children then had the opportunity to learn about the police car and sit in it – they even turned the blue lights and siren on – it was very loud! @Bridgnorthcops

Coronation Celebrations – Friday 5th May

Good Morning,

This is just a reminder that children can wear red, white and blue clothing, or royalty themed clothing, on Friday to celebrate the coronation of King Charles III.

We are hoping that the children can have their lunch outside on the playground as a treat, but this is weather dependent.

Celebration of the Coronation of King Charles III

This year sees the Coronation of King Charles 3rd on Saturday 6th May and we very much want to celebrate this historic occasion.

So on Friday 5th May school uniform is optional and children may wear red, white and blue or regal themed clothing instead.  They will also be enjoying a special whole school picnic lunch (normal school meals are still available.

Little Explorers Pre-School Fundraising for new Outdoor Area

Little Explorers needs OUR help!

We would like to support Pre-School with their fundraising as they are wanting to develop and resource the new outdoor area that they can now use.  Since they had their extension built, the children had very little outdoor learning and play space.  We work very closely with Little Explorers as they are a vital facility for the community, and as we have so much outdoor space, and with the recent removal of the rotten, old adventure playground we have offered this space to pre-school.  But it is an empty plot of land at the moment and Pre-School need resources – so we want to help them as much as possible.  Their current fundraiser is to ‘Grow a Sunflower’:

School Closed Thursday 9th March

Having closely monitored the current road conditions and weather forecast into tomorrow, we have made the decision to close the school tomorrow, 9th March. Little Explorers pre-School will also be closed.
This decision was not taken lightly, but with safety at the forefront, and observing the forecast changes, it seems the sensible decision.

Escooters and Powered Vehicles

We would just like to draw parents attention to the regulations for Escooters and other powered vehicles:

It is illegal to use a powered transporter:

  • on a public road without complying with a number of legal requirements, which potential users will find very difficult
  • in spaces that are set aside for use by pedestrians, cyclists, and horse-riders; this includes on the pavement and in cycle lanes

World Book Day Assembly

We would like to thank all the parents, grandparents, sisters, uncles, aunts and family members who joined us this afternoon for World Book Day!  We have had a wonderful day full of reading and stories, as well as book-based activities.  The highlight was this afternoon when families joined us for a BIG read…

We also shared a presentation about World Book Day and their mission to promote reading for pleasure, offering every child and young person the opportunity to have a book of their own. We also shared the fact that reading for pleasure is the single biggest indicator of a child’s future success.

Fireflies Mrs Morris’ Last Day

We are really sorry to see Mrs Morris leave us today!  She has been a brilliant teacher of the Fireflies on Fridays and has added so much as part of the Brown Clee Team.  We would like to wish her all the best in the future and say a massive THANK YOU for all she has done to teach, nurture and care for the children in the Fireflies.

We

After half term, Mrs Fox will be teaching the Fireflies for a few weeks until our new Fireflies Friday, Mrs Lister, starts – and we look forwards to welcoming Mrs Lister to our team!

World Book Day: 2nd March

We believe that every day is World Book Day as reading is the key to future success – but celebrating Books on Thursday 2nd March is one way to ensure we promote the importance and love of reading.  So the staff and children have planned a day full of activities and we also want parents to be involved too!.

The day will be one that is filled with READING – lots of it and lots of talking about books and stories.  There will be Buddy Reading, writing about books, competitions and a special assembly in the afternoon where parents are invited to join us to hear some children reading excerpts from their favourite books, hear about the activities of the day and share some of our favourite stories.  The Assembly will be at 2.30pm in the school hall, but before that we also want to invite parents to join their child/children in class by bringing in their own favourite picture book and share it with their child in school.  So if you wish to join your child on World Book Day, come along at 2pm with your favourite picture book and enjoy sharing it with your child!

We are also inviting children to create a craft character from one of their favourite books and bring it in from home – in the past we have had vegetable characters, but this year we are opening it up to being any sort of craftwork – children can be as creative and inventive as they wish – as long as they can be carried into school!  They will be on display in the hall so everyone can see them in the assembly.

We would also like to continue to support Birmingham Children’s Hospital as they are doing such a fantastic job of treating and supporting Jake and his family – so if children wish to wear their own clothes, or dress up as their favourite story character, or wear blue for Jake they can do – as long as they make a small donation to charity.

Our Favourite Books

This week in assemblies we have been talking about books!  We have shared some of our favourites and enjoyed listening to a different story each day.  Here is the list of some of our favourite books – which we thoroughly recommend you share!  The children were fantastic at giving us all their reviews and reasons for why we should read them.
