Christmas Dinner

A massive thank you to Laura and Carla for our fantastic Christmas dinner this year!

School Council and Year 6 Responsibilities

Pupil voice and a sense of responsibility is something that is very important to us at Brown Clee.

Our Year 6s have various different responsibilities:

Bronze Ambassadors (Sports Leaders):
Run a daily break time club for KS1. Lead sports events in school. Keep P.E. cupboard tidy. Make suggestions to the School Council around P.E. and Sports.

  • Ari C
  • Archie
  • Izzy T
  • Penny
  • Emily
  • Jake

Eco-Ambassadors (Sports Leaders):
Regular litter picking around school site. Make suggestions to the School Council regarding environment and being eco-conscious.

  • Ari
  • Josh
  • Flynn
  • Issy P

Library Monitors:
Keep library area organised and tidy. Make suggestions to the School Council regarding books and reading.

  • Penny
  • Emily
  • Issy P

Lunch Monitors:
Support pupils at lunch time and help tidy afterwards. Make suggestions to the School Council regarding school meals and the lunch hall.

  • Issy P
  • Ari
  • Josh

Chicken Monitors:
Ensures chickens have food, water and their coop is cleaned out.

  • Alfie
  • Lexi
  • Issy P
  • Josh

All of the above feed into our School Council – who has three “Heads of School Council”:

Head of School Council:
Leads school council meetings and communicates ideas to/from other ambassadors/monitors.

  • Izzy T
  • Lexi
  • Archie

The head of school council created their own democratic system for the whole school to vote in representatives from all year groups. These were recently announced in assembly:

  • Reception: Wynter & Merry
  • Year 1: Henry Ho & Grace
  • Year 2: Isabelle & Stan
  • Year 3: Hugo & Connor
  • Year 4: Ruby & Aubrey
  • Year 5: Benji & Ted

School Council will meet regularly (led by the three Heads of School Council) to discuss any ideas or suggestions they have about things in school.

Eco-Ambassadors – Assembly

This week, our eco-ambassadors led an assembly on why it is important to be eco-conscious.

Spring Term Menu – first half term

The Spring Term menu up until February half term is now live on ParentPay to enable you to book your child’s meals up until then.  Please don’t forget that there is a 48 hour embargo on booking meals meaning that the last opportunity to book them is 2 days before the meal is taken.  If you do forget or need to book a meal due to unforeseen circumstances, please e-mail the school office where we will be able to book this for you up and including the day of the meal.  There is a link below to ParentPay

Listening to Your Child Read Workshop

We are looking to run a workshop in school – led by Mrs. Fox and Mrs. Morris – about listening to your child read at home. This will explain how reading is taught at school – particularly how we teach phonics.

This will help ensure the practice of reading children are doing at home links closely to what we do in school.

We would really appreciate if all parents of children in Fireflies and Grasshoppers (Reception, Year 1 and Year 2) could fill in the following form so that we can plan this effectively: https://forms.office.com/e/6XiUWAXX1S.

School Nativity – ’24

Grasshoppers and Fireflies put on two very impressive performances of their school nativity: the Bossy King.

The confidence on show from all the pupils was fantastic to see.

Our nativity photo will hopefully feature in the Shropshire Star’s nativity special on 20th December.

Christmas Tree – Winning Bid

Congratulations to Carol Banks – whose bid of £50 was the highest for our Christmas tree!

Thank you for all of those that did place bids – and another big thank you to Hugh at Burwarton Estate for their kind generosity in donating the tree to school in the first place.

After-School Clubs for Spring Half Term

Retiree Lunch – Carol Singing

This week, Dragonflies headed to the local village to do some carol singing – which was very well received.

Forest School

Yesterday afternoon, Grasshoppers had a great time at Forest School. They toasted marshmallows on the camp fire and made s’mores. They had fun making dens, using the mud kitchen, making leaf chains and hunting for chocolate Christmas puddings!

Ditton Priors History Group Visit To Fireflies

On Wednesday Fireflies were visited by Robin and Paul from the Ditton Priors History Group. They thoroughly enjoyed learning about the history of the village and looking at the pictures and artefacts that were brought in. The old brass band drum was a firm favourite. Thank you to Paul and Robin for such an interesting and informative afternoon.
