Our teacher is Mrs. Cains and we are supported in the classroom by Miss Burton. We have 34 children in our class this term – a mix of 20 Year 5 and 14 Year 6 pupils. Our topic this term is Tudor Ludlow,
There will be swimming on a Wednesday morning for all of KS2 children. Scorpions will also be doing P.E. on a Thursday. However, this day may change depending on certain events or circumstances. We will also be doing a daily run. We will go outside whatever the weather so please ensure you have the correct clothing for the season. An extra pair of socks in your bag is a great idea!
You are allowed to bring in your own pencil case. However, this should be small enough to fit in your tray. Everything you need is provided in school, so you don’t need lots of extra stationery.
Water bottles should contain water only unless school have been notified otherwise.
Home Tasks
Scorpions’ home tasks are to read regularly and to practise spellings and times tables. We currently use interactive online games – which are particularly effective for helping with both practising spellings and times tables. Links to Times Tables Rockstars and Spelling Shed can be found below. See Letter outlining homework expectations for expectations and Homework Policy for further details. When you have read, please remember to complete a reading slip. You will then receive a ticket and be entered into the competition where the winner receives a book or bookmark every Friday during Celebration Assembly.
Spellings
Every Friday, you will bring home a list of ten spellings to learn. You will be given a test on these words the following Friday and a new list will be shared. Children in Scorpions will recap high-frequency words and Year 3/4 common exception words as well as Year 5 & 6 common exception words. These word lists will be made available each week for you to practise on Spelling Shed. The full 3&4 and 5&6 word lists are available on Spelling Shed should you wish to do any further practice.
Times Tables
Children in Scorpions will be tested on all times tables every Friday and should use Times Tables Rockstars. However, you may still say them verbally or write them down depending on how confident you are. You should be aiming to have a very quick accurate recall of all times tables.

Assessment
Towards the end of year 6, pupils participate in Statutory Assessment Tests (commonly SATs) for reading, maths and grammar, punctuation & spelling. These tests are simply assessing against learning from KS2. There is no need for any additional work for these – other that what goes on in normal lessons at school and home tasks (reading daily, Spelling Shed and TTRS). Here is a video to give you more information on these tests:-
