As part of our science topic on Evolution and Inheritance, Class 4 have been exploring how habitats can vary across the school grounds.
First, we needed to divide the school grounds up to a referable grid – so that we could randomise the areas that we were going to explore, which you can see in the images below:
Each group then had to use a random number generator to decide on which area of the field they were going to investigate first:

Once a group had generated a set of random grid co-ordinates, they needed to use their map to find it – and then place a 30cm quadrat (we made a square used four 30cm rulers) to investigate what the given area was made up from. Once investigated, they would create a new random set of co-ordinates to explore a new area.
