Spelling Shed

Please can the children ensure that they do use Spelling Shed throughout the week to learn the phonic sounds or spelling patterns that have been taught each week.

Miss Relph sets assignments for the Year 1 children, as they have their phonic session with her.

For the Year 2 children, each spelling pattern that they have been taught in class will be set as an assignment but there are very few children accessing these, each week.

The log in details for your child will be in their blue reading record. Please get in touch if you have any problems.

Many  thanks for your support.

Year 1: Phonics Practice

The Year 1s in Fireflies and Grasshoppers have been working hard with their phonics this half term and have learnt all the following phonemes:

/ea/ /oe/ /au/ /ew/ /ay/ /ie/ /ou/  /ey/ /wh/ /ph

We have set some practice assignments up on Spelling Shed for them and it would be really helpful if they could practice at least one game daily – as little and often practice is the best way to ensure new information gets stored in the long term memory.

All children should have their Spelling Shed log-ins to access the games.

We will also be setting spelling lists for the tricky (common exception) words – and with these words, children can earn certificates with the points that they amass!  Each point they earn goes towards their “Shed Score” – and this is the total of scores for the past rolling 7-day period.

All children start as an egg and can work their way up to a Royal Bee!

Spelling Lists – Autumn 1

Please find a link below which will take you to the spellings for Year 1 and Year 2, for this half term.

Each week, the spelling lists will be stuck into their little blue spelling books so that they can take them home to learn.

The children will be tested each Monday, so please ensure their spelling book is brought into school.

Each morning, the children will practise their spellings by completing ‘Look, Say, Cover, Write, Check’ and throughout the week they will complete spelling activities to help to reinforce them.

Each list of words is also on ‘Spelling Shed’.

Spelling Lists Autumn 1

The children have had their spelling test today, as usual. I will be keeping the yellow spelling books so that the children can be tested throughout the week on their common exception words. Therefore, they will not be given any spellings in this book, this week. However, as part of their homework they will be given a list of 2D and 3D shape names to learn instead.

Many thanks,

Mrs Morris

Week Beginning: 04.12.17

The children have had their final spelling test for this term.

They will have their next set of spellings after the Christmas break.

If they are keen to do some spellings, they can be learning the common exception words that are highlighted in pink, in their books.

Many thanks.
